And as for the whole 'wearing masks' thing, there's one thing you forgot to mention about Goku.
The self he expresses is not really his own. The REAL Goku is deranged, violent and uncontrolled. That diadem he wears on his head merely suppresses his otherwise conscious self, his 'true' self.
The entire cast wins the award for pretense. But part of that only makes them almost kinda likeable... to me anyways ^^. Who wants perfect little mary-sue characters? I sure don't xD. Their flaws reinforce that they are human beings (well... almost sweatdrop )
