Butterfly Nebula No, what I think is the most likely option is that Aang and Katara, or Aang and whomever (though almost 99% chance of Katara -_-), will have a baby who Aang will train in Airbending (bending is half natural ability and half training/mindset), and then when Aang dies his son/daughter can train the next Avatar in Airbending. And, y'know, he can have babies and such and hopefully maintain a line of Airbenders. And plus there is speculation over The Western Air Temple revealing that there are actually remaining Airbenders other than Aang. I think it's a bunch of bull, but hey, can't disrepute it until the thing actually airs, right? Seira, you WISH. That ship is never dying. I don't think it would die if we beat it with a sledgehammer while it slept.
I wasn't being serious. I know that the damn ship won't die, but that post edit was too fun to pass up. >.<Where can we get a sledgehammer...?
I hope that the series never goes so far as to ever show Katara and Aang with a baby. It would leave us with slightly less angsty fanfiction [if they don't], because authors of said fanfiction wouldn't have to dispose of it the baby (and Aang).
I hope that there will be other airbenders, because that'd be really, really funny. I can't think of any other reasoning besides that. I mean, think of how Sokka'd react!

It only goes to the end of book 3, remember. And Aang is, physically, still only 12. (maybe 13). It'll be a while before there's any baby stuff. ...but yeah...that's what I think. Aang's kid, whomever by, will be the airbender that trains the next avatar in airbending.

Eew. If that's true, then Mike and Bryan are planning on running the show completely into the ground.

I am a Kataang shipper, and I think if Katara and Aang do have kids, it's possible one could be an airbender. But has an Avatar ever had a child? Because it might turn out that the kid(s) could be firebenders for all we know. Plus, when Aang dies, the Avatar spirit would go into a baby waterbender, not a possible child of his. Actually, yes one has. I'll put it in white in case someone missed that episode because it is a huge spoiler, so just highlight it. ^.^ It's one of the first 10 episodes of season 3. Avatar Roku had a son who was Zuko's mother. So Avatar Roku was Zuko's OTHER grandfather.

The_Benefactor123 Ultimatearthbender but if his child is a water bender then it is possible I don't think it works that way...plus if that happened Aang would have to die as the baby is born, and then there wouldn't be any airbenders at all and the Avatar cycle would end. It could still be possible without airbenders going extinct. They have two children. First=airbender. Second=waterbender, Aang dies as child is born.

It's Roku, and he was the grandfather not the great grandfather. But anyway, seriously Aang is only twelve, and I very much see his and Katara's relationship as non permanent puppy love. I know they actually got together at the end, but I really hated all the pairing off they ended up doing. Sokka and Suki, who even cares about her anyway, Zuko and Mai, Mai was just thrown in to give him someone. And I like Katara as a character but she's way to unstable for Aang, who's to innocent. Aang would never kill, but Katara always intended to kill her mothers killer, she just backed out because he was a pathetic old man and not as evil as she imagined him being.
