does anyone have any tips for shredding? and know of any useful sweep picking exercises for someone just starting to attempt sweep picking? shredding is something ive been attempting for basically my entire guitar expirence but for some reason i just cant seem to get the technique down. Id say my left hand fingers are developed enough to move fast enough to shred. ive shown this a few times when playing the main riff of chris impelliterri's "Spanish Fire". i'll land the speed and sound about 15% of the time so the potentials there but it just doesnt seem to work out most of the time. usually when i play, notes get dulled, my right hand refuses to tremelo pick correctly and on a few occasions accidently gets caught up in the string(normally i can tremelo pick perfectly its just on those high E and B strings i seem to have difficulty) <.< anyway so yeah any tips? I know the riff like the back of my hand, i can play it backwards and forwards no problem, its just when i get going attempting to play it fast it just doesnt work. so for those out there who can actually shred pretty well, how exactly did you go about getting to that level of skill? Also! another technique im having difficulty with, sweep picking! just even the basic excersizes i just cannot do it whatsoever. Going extremely slow seems worthless as it just seems like im playing the single note on each string. it reminds me of the first time i ever picked up a guitar. im that bad at attempting it. so yeah any tips for those just beginning to try sweeping? also on a seperate note, a video of dragonforce in all of their glory. i laughed when seeing this, arent these guys supposed to be i dont know, good at guitar or somethin like everyone claims? http://youtube.com/watch?v=f2qY_Rn_qKs&mode=related&search=

i play...
when playing up on the higher strings, i recommend using a heavy pick.. which you may or may not already know...
when you start to play the riff, start off picking picking back and forth slowly and gradually build speed until you can get your hand to do wat you want it to do on the strings
as for sweep picking.... i havent quite got that one down either...

I play too, but it is way difficult to explain something like that through posts... I might film a tutorial video for you, but I'm too lazy, I'll let you know when I do.

practice everything slowly with a metronome. this will help get both of your hands coordinated and working together. when you've mastered everything slow, gradually pick up the speed untill you can play everything perfectly at the speed you want.

i agree just go pick up a cheap metronome then do it slowly and gradually build up your speed. I believe the guys from Trivium have a guide to beggining shredders in one of the guitar worlds.

just find your own style and see what fits. perhaps shredding doesnt fit - it isnt as great as it seems, y'know. i love the riffs of metal, but i actually prefer a bluesy solo sound, so i try to incorporate the blues into my stuff rather than just wail on the guitar.
seriously, its all about finding your own sound
