How is the leaf color in your area? Are you making any trips to see the fall colors? Tell us about it here!

My parents live way out in the mountains, so I'll get them to keep us updated on the progress & quality of the color out there this year.

Not that much as of right now. Mostly still green. If not, the OCCASIONAL brown. Our trees haven't started shedding yet.

Living on 20 acres of mostly wooded land is wonderful. Although Rock Hill is only in the Piedmont region, my hardwoods show off some great fall foliage. The first ones to change are always my dogwoods. Right now they are showing some orange under the green. By the time the dogwood leaves drop off, the maples and oaks start to show color.
Speaking of fall, did anyone catch the brief piece on ABC national news last week talking why leaves fall off trees each fall? It was the little filler piece at the end of the newscast. Seems that the tree itself actually causes the leaves to drop or fall off. On a microscopic level, the tree cuts off the leaf's nutrient supply and then actually "pushes" the leaf away from its point of attachment to the branch. I think that's facinating! Then again, I'm easily amused. blaugh

I have a park in my back yard (well, I live in an aparrtment and it backs to the park) and I'm starting to see some fall colors poke through some of the foliage, but nothing too impressive as of yet.

Mostly maples & sourwood changing around here--a spray of orange or red on one side of a tree here & there.

Talked to my Dad a few days ago. He said leaf color in the mountains is looking really good--lots of red & orange. He says it will probably peak in the mountains by this next weekend.
Around here the cool nights are beginning to bring out some color in the trees. Saw some red & dark red trees today.
