Sound of yapping siblings and his mother's cool voice trickled over his conciousness like water. Kisho shifted slightly in his sleep and remained half-awake as the voices drifted away leaving only the patterns of breaths and heartbeats to fill his skull. Finally feeling sleep's hold loosen he slid a pair of red eyes open to gaze around at the muted darkness off the den. A yawn stretched his maw and he rolled over onto all fours. He stood and with a sharp shake of his fur he settled himself. Then he began to trot purposely towards the entrence. Once outside he ducked his head slightly to glance away from the light and adjust his vision. Having this done he moved out of the way and sat back on his haunces, facing the way his mother and siblings had gone. He hadn't seen where they had gone nor heard their destination...yet he knew they were there.

Jabari watched his brother Shui splash in the water for a few moments before joining him. Heading his mother's warning, he stayed in the shallow regions of the watering hole, gazing at the zebra on the other side of the water. He canted his head to one side, wondering what to make of the large, herbaviours.
He turned his body around to see his other brother running towards the watering hole. Canting his head to one side, he gazed at the black and yellow adult in the distance before yawning widely. Falling on his backside, he quickly yelped and jumped up, his wet tail wagging limply. Shaking his fur to get dry, he scampered out of the water and towards his mother.

One by one their family was stirring. It was more that the Mhenge was able to -hear- them, than anything else. Suddenly she shared Haveo's thoughts-- maybe they should think about breakfast soon, not that the pups were fully old enough to live just on solid food yet.
"At the rate that things are progressing, I'd guess your older sister will be up soon too..." Ujuzi exhaled softly, closing her eyes. Oh, Momo was such a handful. With an adventure streak three hippos wide that girl could wear even the most hyperactive adult out. Thankfully she hadn't so much as left the den yet, but Ujuzi knew the day would soon come...
For now she enjoyed the peace with the boys instead, watching Jabari approach while keeping eyes trained on Shui, and ears trained on Chafu and now Haveo as well. Of course, he wasn't one of her pups-- X) but she kept an ear out in case he came close enough for her to say good morning, all the same.

Shui was still pouncing and prancing in teh water. He liked it so much, it was so different from the dirt and rocks he had seen and poked before out of curiousity. Water changed, water was never the same. True, the dirt and stones would wear away into something more, but water changed ehre and now whenever something touched it.
He noticed as Jabari got out of the water, he wondered if he should do teh same. Hmm....water, or sit with mommy? He tilted his head in consideration, staring blankly for a moment, then the answer was clear; sit with mommy. He stepped out of the water, adn shook himself almost dry, his fur was still shining from some droplets that still helplessly clung to his fur. He padded over to Ujuzi and lay at her side smiling, tail wagging, he curled up close to her and yawned, "Thank you mommy," he said quietly as he nuzzled against her, then lay quiet.
This was nice.

 Haveo chuckled as the brown pup left before he could even answer. Such young ones, always impatient. Oh well, he would learn in time. It wouldn't be too long before their mother introduced him as Uncle Haveo. his eyes kept track of the moving brown body and all the things around. If anything dare try to catch him, he would fight as if it was his own child.
Haveo looked up catching Ujuzi's eyes. He gave her nod good morning. He looked down as another male popped out of the den. He chuckled. "Morning little one." He gently nudged the smaller one towards the direction of his mother, knowing that that's where he'd most likely want to be.

 With only one backward glance at the adult male, Chafu ran to the group of siblings and his mother at the waters edge.
"Whatcha doin'?" He bounded playfully and nosed Shui who had laid down next to Ujuzi. "You've just been asleep! Time to be awake!" And he couldn't help but chuckle at Jabari with his soaking wet rump. Well he didn't want to miss out and he padded over to the water's edge. This is what they'd been playing with? The water? He trotted a little way in, just up to his ankles (which on a small pup wasn't very far in at all). Hmm.. water was fun, but as he discovered when he came out again, the muddy dirt on the bank was even better!
Without a care to his coat he began to rear up on his hind paws and stomp his front ones into the squishy substance. "Hahaha! Hey look at this!"

SHui rubbed his face into his paws after being nosed at by Chafu, true, they had just been asleep. Shui watched Chafu go into the water, then step in the mud, it made a strange squishy sound. Standing up adn padding over to where Chafu was, Shui looked down adn tilted his head, poking at it. It squished.
It was different' Shui placed both paws into it and moved them around adn smiled, it was different, dirty, but different. This was alsmost as good as playing in the water...almost.
Shui yawned and stepped out of the mud, dipped his paws into the water to clean himself off (and to feel the water again) and went back over to Ujuzi and snuggled up against her. He yawned again and smiled, it might be good to take a nap. Today had already been a good day.

before Jabari had the chance to reach his mother, he noticed that Shui was also out of the water and had reached their mother before him. Unconcerned that it was a race to get to their mother, Jabari slowed his pace down slightly until he heard Chafu's voice arise from the other side of their mother. He stopped briefly to watch his other brother wander over to the lake to splash in it.
He continued to make his way back to his mother and saw his brother briefly go back into the water. Reaching his mother a minute later, he flopped down beside Shui and rested his head on his brother's back, his eyes half-closed.

Well having only just got up, Chafu wasn't about to let his siblings get away with napping again. He'd gotten excited when his water-loving brother had joined him in his discovery of mud. But it hadn't lasted.... and he'd washed the delightful squishy substance off!
With a playful bark he flopped right down in the mud, getting it splashed all over his belly. "Heehee!" He giggled at the ticklish sensation and then proceeded to push his muzzle around in the soggy dirt too. Soon it was hard to tell where mud ended and fur began.
But playing was more fun with others and he hadn't forgotten about his brothers now napping next to their mother. "Don't sleep!" He cried, trotting up messily to them. "You just got up! Come on, I'll race you around the waterhole!" And just to encourage them out of their dozing he wriggled his muddy body against them.

With everyone coming out one by one it was starting to turn into a real pack outing. If it kept up then what her pups had intended to be "hog mommy time" would turn into "the whole family time" instead. Ujuzi felt a small smile tug at the corners of her jaws as the others continued to emerge from the woodworks. This was really no different than the pack that she'd left as a young adult, but it was. This pack was hers, this family was hers.
And as she watched her pups spread the mud around and enjoy themselves a good time overall, even with all the grooming and bathing they'd have to do later she knew that there wasn't a thing she'd do to change this moment. Who would have thought that she'd ever be happy filling the role of the mother of eleven? Life was definitely full of unexpected surprises. Her eyes began to drift shut for a moment, ears ever alert. All in all this was the perfect start to a new day. They might as well enjoy it to the fullest.
