Would you be an Office Lady?(note that this does NOT only apply to ladies)
Sure, why not? Sounds like a decent enough way to live...
Hmph, I'd rather be poor on the streets, than be an 'Office Lady'
Maybe, if enough things about the job change.
'Office Boss' sounds more appealing to me.

Being completely obsessed with the lyrics and beat to Injection of Love, I decided to look up the singer's info(in this case, Sanae Shintani). In her website's bio, it said that in addition to being a singer, she holds down a job as an office lady. The first thing that crossed my mind was, "What in the world is an Office Lady?" So I looked it up on Wikipedia, which lead me to this article on The Office Ladies of Japan. As I read, it really gave me an insight on how much progress equal rights in Japan still has to make, and the womans role in the country.

What do ya'll think of this, and the whole concept of an Office Lady? What does make you think of, when the subject of equal rights comes to mind? Can, or should there be a change to how the office world works?

Well, I can sort of understand why Japanese industries need OL (thank you for providing such an interesting article).
I cannot explain "why" right now, my mind isn't clear enough to explain, but hopefully other people who had experiences in Japan will write their thoughts! This is a really interesting and important subject!

Well, these OL are like secretaries, right? Except that secretaries are allowed to take maternity leave and come back without harrasment of the society. But another thing is that if they don't want to change, then why make them change? If they would rather sit at home and take care of children, then that's their choice.

Of course. If they really want to cause a change, then enough people have to WANT it to change. Everyone knows how well force goes over.

Well, indeed, you've got to agree, at least, that Japan is at least not sexist enough to not allow women to work. Although, I wonder if that's just because they'd rather change with the times. At the same time, they're being more sexist than the western world because, as far as I believe, sexism is more what they're used to, so they don't really want to let that go so easily.

yes, but you will hear some women say, taht sexism has benifitted japan up till now. being raised by a mother constantly is believed to help raise respect and humbleness in a child. but still sexism is angering to women.

oh and i should just say now: just because we are modern, we are still in aisa, our address system works like india, we push away foreigners, and we are sexist. people just need to realize, we are still an asian country.

After reading the little article about the whole office lady. I saw some picture sometime online of a whole group of female worker and it was the same color and i was wondering what it was about but now i know.

though i do understand why some of those female worker doesn't want to change. it's like telling us girl to start doing the old japenese way of taking care of our boyfriend or husband and also i bet it's a bit weird to stuff the different since you know they are so use of being so submessive about it and never complain. also i'm so glad also that sexism is rare over there. Over here in canada and usa you see a lot of charge about it but nothing is done about it. some case win but sometime you don't see a whole of woman winning about it.

mind you this is my opinion i'm not dissing the whole idea of office lady. i'm just saying what i think XD.
