The cat walked half-blindly, with sensitive bare paws stepping gingerly across the way. A little grin sat awkwardly on his face. He was tired, and just wanted to curl up and sleep. Often, he'd reach up and rub his squinted eyes, and then yawn, his little rough tongue curling out of his mouth, which was lined with small, pointed teeth. They came to the door where he was to enter; maybe there he would be able to sleep. It was cold, too. He didn't like it. But still he smiled. What he liked even less, though, was that he didn't really understand what was happening. What was happening around him, to him, anything. All he knew was that it was his birthday, and that he was welcomed here. Welcomed to what, he wasn't entirely certain. All of this uncertainty. Why didn't he know anything?
The cat was given a place to sleep, and this was one thing that he did understand, and was in fact very grateful for. He sprang up on to the bed, and curled up, his little tail wrapping around himself, and his little ear twitching contentedly. Now, the cat's smile turned real. He figured that now he was happy, and he was indeed glad that he could decide on just what he was. Lucian fell asleep.

When Lucian woke the next day, his mind was completely blank of the previous days procdeedings. His arms stretched forward and his mouth opened wide, a purr escaping with his yawn. His little hands moved up and down in a kneading pattern over the sheets, a small pricking sound coming every time his claws momentarily caught the fabric. After this new routine of wakefullness was complete, the little purple cat took a look about himself. ...Wait, where was he? Slowly, images of yesterday crept back into his mind. "Happy birthday."
"Yesterday, was my birthday," he tested himself vocally and mentally. "And then, today... is not my birthday." So far so good. "Therefore, it is my-" His face contorted into cross-eyed concentration, still grinning in his mild frustration. "-it is my UNbirthday!" Pleased with himself, he sat up, swinging his feet over the edge of the bed. "Yes, and then tomorrow..." Oh no! What would tomorrow be? The Unbirthday and the Birthday were already taken. It could be his Un-unbirthday. But, then what? Would he have to keep adding 'un's' forever? This was all too complicated for Lucian. Frustrated, he pulled his leges back up to his chest, and tried to scowl. But, he couldn't wipe that silly grin off his face.
After moments of failed thoughts, Lucian decided it would be best to test himself physically. He walked yesterday. It couldn't be quite as difficult as deciding what the rest of the days of his life were going to be. So, he stood up. And it was easy. Then, he realized, he was unclothed. This was bad. Though he was covered with fur from head to toe, he still needed clothes. He decided quickly that this was a normal compulsion, to avoid confusion. That man... he wore clothes. So Lucian should wear clothes, too. Satisfied with this logic, he dressed in a little green shirt and pants that he found by his bedside. After fumbling with a zipper and button (his stubby, furry fingers quite hinderd this), he felt thoroughly prepared to walk about.
And about he did go. He looked about himself, marveling at what his eyes saw, now that they were properly opened. He saw the door he'd entered through yesterday. He wanted to go back out. Maybe he'd find that man again. That man wished him well. So that man was someone he could call... friend?
And Lucian, the little purple cat, went looking for Friend.

When Lucian returns, there is a box on his bed, wrapped in purple paper with a white ribbon bow. Upon opening the box, inside he will find a very nice coat. The coat, when worn, turns its wearer and all of their body, invisible. The exception to this is the head, the hood has to be worn over the head to make that invisible also. With out it, it would appear that there is a head supended in mid air. The coat will adjust eventually to fit the size of the wearer.
