FaiFlowright
I am stubborn. I just think "Fay" makes absolutely no sense. It sounds like "Fai", so I think it should be romanized as such. Honestly, I could care less what CLAMP has decided as the official romanization of his name. They're great at creating manga, but that doesn't mean their translation of his name into English is the most suitable choice. (In my opinion, at least. sweatdrop )

I hear they spell it "Fay" because that's how you would spell it in Spanish...^^; But I'm not completely sure. To me, though, I don't think the name has to be romanized to English, you know? X3

yeah I agree... why would Avalon make sense with Kinomoto? Kinamay would make sense (my "creative" friend made that up for no reason at all sweatdrop ), Kinamata, Kinamato, Kinomota, Kinomato... whatever? I saw a new soap in stores and it was called Avalon. I saw a fire engine called "Clow". Ugh! scream (Anna-chan... Shaman King...)

Rengeki Circles
Phi took the words out of my mouth. XD

I remember when I first read the manga, I somehow managed to pronounce Syaoran as 'Sai-oh-ran'(which my best friend still calls him ^^; I put emphasis on the 'oh' and she puts it on the 'Sai' making it sound pretty weird) and then heard the anime and was like WTF until recently after watching a lot more anime. XD Ao is such a weird word/sound/whatever. Aoi is even harder for me to pronounce because 'A-oh-ii' sounds...weird.

What's strange, though, is that even though Syaoran was originally from China, in the Chinese dub of CCS, Sakura's name(at least, her first name) was directly translated into Chinese(Sakura to Xiao Ying, Xiao being a cute-nickname-ish thing for kids, a little like -chan(forgive me if I messed up here), and the Ying being from Ying Hua, the Chinese equivalent to cherry blossoms), while Syaoran's was...Wang Xiao Ming for some odd reason. Sakura's is 'Mu Zhi Bin Ying' (did I mess up there? @_@)However, the kanji in the TRC Chinese manga for 'Syaoran' or 'Xiao Lang' is different from the Japanese version. Odd. Quite odd. I think, at least.

Fay D. Flourite is official. <33 It says so in the CARACTere GuiDE. Gotta love it. <3

And it seems the TRC Seishirou is quite powerful, with a five in power, five in special, four in technique,, five in mental power, four in special and four in charm. Considering five is the max, I'd say he's pretty strong, mentally and physically. [off topic ^^;]

...I also manage to associate Fay with Morgan as well. ^^;

The Americanized CCS just appalled me. 'Showron' is nowhere near the original pronounciation, and where the hel ldo you get 'Avalon' from Kinomoto?! @_@
But i thought sakura's 1 was mu zhi ben ying instead of mu zhi bin ying?
the mu zhi ben is probably considered kinomoto

The main thing is, WHY did they even THINK of changing the names????
I have issues with people pronouncing words in foreign languages incorrectly.
I think that comes from people pronouncing my name wrong a lot... I'm not really sure.
I never really knew that 'Fai' is supposed to be spelled 'Fay'. I think of 'fei' when I see "Fay"... ><"
I have a bad reaction when people say things in Japanese funny. I'm thinking, "It's supposed to be -----, not -----!!!!!" scream I just hate that... It also annoys me when people say that they're saying something right but they aren't.

OMG SYAO-KUN! THAT'S HORRIBLE!

... rofl

I always end up associating Fay with Morgan le Fay...>.>

Lol, I never actually thought of Fay as Morgan le Fay... I spell it Fay because of the Character Guide, and I've always pronounced it was Fai... And it bothers me when people call Syaoran, Showron... it's just not right. >.<

I never had a problem with how his name was spelled, I always called him "Fay".

It's mistranlated as "Fai" a lot because of the direct translation in sound from Japanese to English. "Y"s aren't used as vowels, so the only sound that can subsitute that sound in Japanese is an "I". So, the direct literal translation is "Fai".

CLAMP, however, wishes to be a bit more creative and claim his name is spelt "Fay".

I personally don't have a problem with this spelling, but I accept "Fai" or "Fye". Just not "Fei", that's Fei Wang's name XD

Actually, it IS Fai over her. In Japan it was Fay, but how they pronouce it is Fai, so they changed that over here so it wasn't pronouced Fey. This is in the characture guide... or in one of the books. Its says its SOMEWHERE.

Hm, am I the only one who wonders where the hell CLAMP came up with the romanization of Syaoran? I mean, they use the kanji to write it, but when they separate it they spell it "shi-a-" and then I don't know the rest because Sakura stopped talking. sweatdrop But still, where'd the y come from? X_x Couldn't they have just left it Xiao?

And who else here likes to spell it "Touya" and "Hiiragizawa" and "Yuuko?" :3

The y would come from ya in syaoran the seperate hiragana would spell out shi-ya-o-ra-n (the ya is smaller because they combine the shi and ya to make sha if it was big then it would be pronounced shiyaoran. They may have romanized it that way because that's one of the quicker ways to type that name on a keyboard while the computer program changes the combination to the correct set of hiragana. (So in case my explanation didn't make much sense if I typed in sya with my Japanese language setting it would turn out shi and a small ya as in his name)

Welll it is actaully supposed to be spelled "Fay" (pronounced Fie, like fee fie fo fum.. type of thing...) It is only spelled "Fai" sometimes so it can be written with Japanese characters because "Fay" wouldn't actually translate properly.. (Fai also retains the actually pronunciation of the name...)

As for Syaoran.. It is supposed to be spelled that way.. Again the other spelling is because it needed to be written in Japanese characters.

Waitwaitwait. I'm getting confused. I heard that it was "Fai" in the English Dub, and "Fay" in the Japanese Manga/Anime. Fai is so confusing @_@ But everytime I try to say "Fay", it comes out like "Fa-ae-y".

And it's strange how the American Dub spelled Syaoran "Shaoran". It sounds the same, but it's so pointless! So is the Lee part. -_-''. I remember when my friend got a "Cardcaptors" book (pfshhh....), and gave it to me since she knew I liked CCS a lot. I read it, and I was like "WTH? This is SOOO wrong."
Seriously, It was. I just don't get why they changed the names! Do they try to make it more... understandable? 'cuz if they do, I'm sure that others can
