Kaikura looked just as skeptical as his friend. He honestly didn't see anything princely about it. It just looked silly...like he was a bluebird or something. "Prince...? Flower prince...bird prince?" His teasings didn't intend ot have any bite to them, but he didn't make an effort to soften them either. He continued though, "Yeah...maybe, but...imagine if you could be sneaky too. See then you'd be even stronger then just being skilled and stuff!" ....Right? Made perfect sense to him!

-His brow lifted, a frumpy frown touching his maw. It seemed the young prince had an ego that was easy to bruise.. and he was trying hard not to just bite the little tramp for his insult. No no.. he was useful.. for now he'd just have to get over it.- "No, a Prideland Prince. I'll have you know my grandpa is the king."

-Turning lightly to look up at the golden rocks, mind wandering momentarily to the weak grandfather that he felt no real love or connection to, he finally oblidged, flicking his tail with soft contempt.- "I guess we can cover it up this time. If you're afraid you're not skilled enough to hunt with me and my pelt."

-His eyes began to glance for something that color his bright hue. Dust would soften it.. but whatelse other then mud all the way at the wateringhole?-

"Who's the one who pinned ya?" Kaikura replied simply, a smug tone in his young voice. He couldn't help it. Sure, they were going to be training buddies, but right now he felt like he was the one on top. The foolish pride of cubhood, sure, but he HAD pinned the other and held him rather well. Besides, he didn't really know what to believe when his friend said he was a prince. He was pretty sure the royal line of the pride was orange...maybe red, but not blue. No way was it blue.

-The edges of Ahai's mouth drew up in a silent snarl, but he simply pushed ahead of the other cub, his tail swaying irritantly however.- "Whatever."

-Attempting to change the subject and get to training before he ruined this little 'partnership' with his temper, he asked lightly.- "What do you think we should use to cover my pelt? Dust? Mud?"

"Mud's probably good," Kaikura said with a nod, shifting a thoughtful paw along through the dirt. His ears twitched slightly as he tried to think of the best way to find a good, dark patch of it. "Maybe the watering hole has some...it usually has red mud...and brown mud too. I bet it could cover up your bright blueness." He grinned, springing to his feet with a energetic leap and a sharp flick of his tail. Somehow the idea of splattering another cub with filth without getting in trouble was very appealing.

"Alright, that's the only place I know for mud too." -Tri colored paws turning the youth towards the direction of the familar watering hole. Lightly he motioned with a nod of his head, before bolting into the grasses.- "Come on, let's go!"

-He held a silent challenge in his thoughts. Maybe he could beat the other cub there. But he wouldn't say it outloud.. else he might end up feeling foolish soon enough if this cub was some sort of speed star.

Weaving through the grasses just to miss the rocks and obstacles that might slow him he continued on, waiting for the smell of the watering hole to touch his nose.-

Boys were competitive, that was just a fact of life. So when Ahai took off at a run Kaikura needed no further encouragement. He leapt after him and began to sprint through the grass. His course seemed more linear, for he didn't even bother to avoid rocks or dips in elevation. He just plowed on like a head-strong boar charging. Granted, his sprints were light and long like a lion, but it didn't seem very predator like. Maybe he needed to work on that. But in any case, he ran off to the watering hole, hoping to beat his friend there. But if he lost...he had the excuse that Ahai had a head start.

-Tiny paws carried him, body held low and compact as he traveled, though his ears remained perked and clear, waiting for the sound of the other's paws.

And as the sound did draw nearer and nearer he pushed himself harder, paws streching out wide in each bound, relief washing over him when finally the familar scent of the waterhold assualted him.

Bursting through the edge of the grasses and onto the packed dirt, he grinned widely, proudly to himself. Even though it very likely WAS just the head start that'd gotten him their first. Padding forwards towards the waters quickly, in an attempt to quiet his heavy breaths before Kaikura appeared, he began to drag his paw along the shoreline, looking for mud thick enough and gooey enough.-

Kaikura burst through the stalks of green only a few moments after, his chest moving up and down rapidly in heavy breathing. He frowned as he saw Ahai had beat him. He straightened up a little, making it appear like it was no big deal. Ahai had had a head start after all. "Yeah, this mud looks good," He nodded and put his paws into some of it. He wasn't afraid to get dirty.

-A simple sound of amusement touched Ahai's throat as he caught the hints of that frown, but already he was beginning to dip his paws into the mud at the shoreline, using his back paws to splatter the thick muck up along his shoulders.

And he sat waiting for the other cub to splatter mud in places that he wasn't quite as capable of reaching, a soft smirk touching his face as he once again tried to one up his new friend.- "This was a good idea. This muds pretty heavy, so I'll have to try even harder to run and hunt with it. I can handle it though."

Kaikura began to splatter mud upon Ahai without shame, lifting dripping paws only to fling them forward to send the mud flying to land on his companion. "But mainly you won't be so bright blue anymore," he asserted, for that had been the point in the first place. After all, one didn't blend in so well if one was blue and the grass was green. That just didn't work.

-A soft sound of amusement touched the young lion, and he continued to smear, drawing the clods of mud along his bright pelt, until he began to look more and more like his companion.

They probably looked ridiculous to anyone around them, prey or predator, but the cub took on the task with a seriousness much more then 'mere childsplay'. And when finally most of his body was covered in the gunky heavy mud, he grinned, standing up to test his balance.- "Alright! Hunting time!"
