The path of sand: Egypt's fate

It was yet another day in the fallen country of Egypt. New home of mega-villain Avalanche. Said villain was currently hanging lazily on his throne made out of pure sand in his castle, also made out of pure sand. He was currently staring at his apprentice: Scorpion. The young girl in question was hanging upside down in a smaller throne also made out of sand and legs dangling in front of her face.

"What?" a yawn. The girl appeared to be as bored as the mega-villain himself. If the attendance of all the scorpions in the area was any indication, then it would appear she was terribly bored indeed. The throne and floor were crawling with them as they flooded around in seemingly random patterns. It appeared to interest Scorpion greatly. But then again; not really, seeing how she kept on poking and prodding them, changing them into different patterns with every prod.

Avalanche tapped his fingers impatiently on the hardened sand of his throne, remaining silent. He kept on looking at Scorpion, an intensily assessive gaze.

She slammed down her fist against a wall, crumbling it and striking a hole in it. Almost instantly all of the fallen sand flew back up and rejoined the wall. The whole process took less than a second and when it was done, the wall looked as solid as ever, showing no sign of its previous destruction. "What?" she sounded very much annoyed now.

"You're being quite useless around here." Avalanche sighed as his eyes flicked over to a wall which promptly expelled a pair of snakes, performing a majestic dance.

Scorpion, glad with the challenge, jumped up. "Did you forget what I did?! I was the one that levelled Cairo! I was the one that took out the opposition and I was the one that drove away those f*****g supers," she exclaimed arrogantly.

Avalanche smirked as his gaze fell back on his young apprentice. "I would warn you to not strike such a tone at me weren't it for the fact that I actively encourage it." He grinned widely as another snake elevated itself out of the floor and wound itself around Scorpion's legs.

"Bah." Scorpion sneered as she swiped her hand impatiently through the snake, dissolving it into a pile of sand. She jumped forwards and grinned widely to accept the unspoken challenge. "I'll do whatever you say, master! Anything!"

Avalanche finalled deemed it worthy to sit up. Supporting himself with one elbow he turned towards the young girl. "That's my girl," he grinned widely, "I have just the thing for you."

"I want you to gather all that Egypt has to offer."

Avalanche had smirked eagerly, already thinking ahead of what he could do when that had been accomplished. It wasn't really a fun job. Not that Scorpion was complaining. It gave her something to do.

She rode on top of her largest scorpion. Mostly throughout the desert, but there were little settelements she loved disturbing. Right now she was bulldozing her way through Giza and smirked each time she heard the cries of the frightened civilians as they scattered to make way for her 30-foot high scorpion.

Of course, it had only been two days since they had succesfully taken Egypt so they couldn't expect too much, but still... only two of the native Evos had reported to their castle and that was worrying. Weren't there more? According to Amisi, there were. Some guy named 'Lord Odjit' was the one that was supposed to be the resident coördinator and had apparently gathered Evos from all over the country. And now it was her job to raid the deserts in order to find him and consequently all of the others. Oh joy.

Deep in thought, she only became aware that the screams of the civilians had stopped because all of a sudden her scorpion vanished and she was forcefully flung forwards. However, before she could make a very deep and rather painful impact with the ground, it rose and gracefully twisted itself in a large hand which neatly caught her.

"Avalanche?" she asked, a hint of bewilderment in her voice.

"Not quite." A cool female voice from her left, followed by a deep male chuckle.

"Figures. Odjit?" Scorpion's voice remained quite flat as she rose gracefully to her feet, not bothering to dust off all of the sand and dirt. The woman that had spoken was accompanied by a man. Both of them wore desert clothes with the slight difference that the man had covered up his mouth and nose with a veil. The woman had dropped the veil in order to speak to the young villain.

"Yes," the woman said, sounding amused. "I see you are quite well informed. The Lord will be pleased."

Scorpion didn't give any outward reaction and merely awaited what would happen. This seemed to please the woman even more.

"Mesi," she slightly inclined her head and made a motion with her hand. The sand beneath Scorpions feet slid forward as if it were some sort of conveyer belt until she rested next to the woman. "This is Chike," she motioned to the man, who inclined his head slightly in acknowledgement.

Scorpion gave both Mesi and Chike a clearly unimpressed look. After all, having Avalanche as mentor had assured her to having seen pretty much all there was to see when it came to 'neat' tricks with sand. The only thing that worried her was what they had done to her scorpion. Mesi couldn't have done anything, being an earth manipulator so that left the man. She looked him over, wondering what he could do. Some sort of energy implosion, Mind control, illusions... really, there were plenty of options. But if she was to stay alive right now, she had better not show weakness. She let out a bored sigh.

"Look. I'm with Avalanche. I've seen it all. Take me to Odjit or whatever. I don't like to wait."

Mesi frowned lightly. "Don't worry, there will be a time to impress later. For now, we have been instructed to take you to the Lord," she said coolly.

Mesi spread her arms wide and the sand beneath them lifted and formed itself into a plateau before it started moving quickly to.... somewhere. In the desert. Not that Scorpion saw the difference. It was all sand anyway. And she still didn't get what fascinated Avalanche so much about the stuff....

Ah well.

After what felt like hours of completely silent travelling they arrived at an oasis. Unimpressed, Scorpion looked around and raised an eyebrow at Mesi. The woman smiled in reply and nodded towards her male companion.

Wasting no time, Chike lowered himself into the water and-- well, he did something, but Scorpion had no clue what because the next moment the water from the oasis parted to the sides and left a nice, albeit slightly muddy, pathway. It led towards a hatch which had a stairway going down beneath it.

Still showing no sign of surprise, Scorpion jumped down after a gesture of Mesi and followed Chike down the stairs. While ascending she couldn't help but gape at the sight that greeted her. Now there was something she hadn't seen before. A large stone dome with a stone stairway leading down towards a... Scorpion thought for a moment. 'Jungle' would probably be an adequate term for the incredible amount of... nature... everywhere.
Trees, bushes, flowers and water everywhere. Marble benches, a marble fountain, a (what the hell?) gust of wind was blowing gently around the room, ruffling her hair and remarkably refreshing without the hot sun. There seemed to be plenty of fruits growing from several trees and there were several marble paths leading down into the twisted passages of trees and bushes into the rock wall probably off into another room. Spread out in small groups across the room were several men and women whom all looked up at Scorpion. Some seemed to be interested, others hostile whereas others smirked at her.

"Quite a sight, isn't it?" Mesi whispered from behind.

Startled, Scorpion nearly fell, but instead she turned around to confidently smirk at the woman. "I must admit it is quite the craftmansship," she admitted. "You must have had the assistence of quite a lot of Evos."

The other woman replied to the unspoken question with a nod of assent. She then pointed towards a set of doorways towards the left of the stairs. "You can find refreshments there. I will send in a servant to bring you food, water and a new set of clothing."

Scorpion opened her mouth to object but Mesi raised a hand and spoke before she had the chance. "No. You will not appear before our Lord in such a state. Once you have freshened up one of the servants will bring you to the Lord." Her tone of voice was strict and left no room for argument and for this one time, Scorpion decided to try and get along. After all, it wouldn't do to start a fight in the middle of the enemy's headquarters and potentially alienate them. And she did need to meet this Odjit guy. Ha! Avalanche would be pleased if he saw her showing such restraint.

"Sure, whatever," she shrugged.

Mesi smiled. "Most excellent. You may follow Chike and he will show you to your quarters." With those parting words she turned and followed one of the marble paths into the trees.

Scorpion silently followed Chike and didn't even bother to say goodbye after arriving at her quarters. The room was sparsely decorated but seemed fancy enough, with everything made out of white marble. She nearly hopped up and down with glee as she spotted the bath in the middle of the floor and wasted no time in getting into it.

She let out a sigh as the refreshing water cooled her skin. This Odjit guy really had his business in order. That meant he was more powerful than they had originally anticipated. The key was, so she pondered, not to demand anything but to gently coach him into doing what her master wanted. The guy probably wouldn't want to give up any of his power, everything about the place just screamed 'BIG BASE FOR BIG POWERFUL BOSS'. He had to be for that Mesi woman to refer to him as a 'Lord'. The trick was just making him believe they were going to share power. No way. Avalanche would kick this guy's a**. Easily. Times a million. She smirked sadistically. And maybe he would allow her to kill that Mesi woman. Bah. Arrogance. She absolutely despised arrogance.

Closing her eyes, she leaned back and relaxed, a satisfied smile on her face.

A little over an hour later, Scorpion had changed into a fresh set of clothes the servants had brought to her. She had protested quite heavily against it since it was nothing more than a large sheet of silk which, apparently, had to be draped around you in an intricate way. Scorpion was NOT of the intricate ways and had tugged and pulled on it until it stayed fairly secure. Needless to say, by the time Mesi had returned for her and smiled knowingly and--DAMN HER-- gleefully at her, Scorpion was in a Very Bad mood.

"That's not how that goes, you know," Mesi spoke airily and gave her ANOTHER condescending smile. She had changed into one of those cloth things too, except HERs looked fantastic on her. "Here, I'll show you."

"Like HELL you will!" Scorpion fumed. "Its fine like it IS, thank you."

"Yes, I will," Mesi spoke a bit more coldly now. "You will not appear before our Lord in such a state."

Scorpion met Mesi's gaze defiantly. Mesi looked back calmly. They stared at each other for a while, Scorpion angry, defiant and heated and Mesi just cool, calm and unrelenting until, finally, Scorpion looked away, defeated and terribly angry.

"There, there. It's not so hard, isn't it?" Mesi smiled at Scorpion while she undressed her and then fastened the sheet easily in a proper way. "There we are, that wasn't so hard, was it?" Mesi asked kindly.

"Oh screw you!" Scorpion hissed and stomped out of the room.

Mesi merely chuckled and followed her out, shaking her head slightly.

Scorpion was then taken to the Lord Odjit, although she suspected it wasn't the fastest way, she practically got a tour through the entire complex, which was HUGE, with mesi commenting on a thing here or a thing there and against her will, she was impressed. If Avalanche could get the evos that built this place on his side, they could create a little paradise of their own! That'd be GREAT! But for that to happen, she'd have to talk to Odjit and she would just about be there! Finally!

Finally, Mesi escorted Scorpion into a larger room, seperate from the main complex and entered through a long tunnel. The room they entered was darkened, and Scorpion was disoriented for a moment when Mesi held up her hand and motioned for her to stop. She went forwards and kneeled in front of someone. "My Lord," she spoke reverently, almost lovingly, "I've brought the child."

Scorpion nearly bristled, but then the room seemed to lighten and she could see a dark-haired man sitting on a large throne, elevated highly into the room. He smiled and spoke, kindly. "Do not refer to her as such, Mesi," his voice was very smooth and pleasant to listen to," Scorpion thought in surprise. "This young one has quite some power behind her. Is that not right... Sarah?"

Scorpion blinked in shock. How did he--?

"How I know?" Odjit laughed. "My dear Sarah. I know everything."

And then everything went black.
