someone told me to drink some red wine. for me sex was traumatizing. i cried the last time we did it before mine was born.
anyway................... my suggestion is to wait it out. i was on bedrest so i couldn't do a lot of things... but going on walks is also supposed to help. lots of walks. i feel that the baby and i weren't ready for labor, as we did one of those inducing labor tricks... and i ended up needing a C-section. its DEFINITELY best to just WAIT... and not do anything crazy.

n****e stimulation ive found does work, if you're already in early labor.
However I tried with ALOT of these things (pineapple, walking, sex, going up and down the stairs alot, cold shower on my belly) and my son was still 3 days late.
I'm gonna start it all over again next week when I hit full term, maybe it will get her here a tiny bit sooner lol

Mara-ani xd I got told to eat spinach, parsely and rasberries and yarrow. Have sex, go for walks, dance (gently). Get a massage with orange and ylang ylang oil. xd But hey- even if they don't work, it's a damn good excuse to have sex, eat rasberries go dancing and demand a massage! Good luck Angie- hope it's a quick and easy birth. heart I'll second that... sounds like fun to me

I was told not to visualize flowers opening or anything like that, something we had learned in Lamaze. I went into labor a month early and they were trying to stop it. Suffice to say I couldn't help it at that point.
Despite their best efforts, Grace arrived six hours later.

Topaz_Rising_Flame Drinking castor oil is supposed to do it too. So far, the walking thing hasnt worked for me. My mucous plug has been gone since Monday, been passing "bloody show" for about 4 days, and still no baby! Trust me, they come out in their own time... at least mine. He wont run on my time! DO NOT I repeat DO NOT drink castor oil, it can cause fetal distress which can KILL your baby!!!! I tried the walking the sex spicy foods, etc I ended up on 24 hours of pitocin before my stubborn (not so) little guy popped out.

Angiemademe I know there is a pregnancy thread, but I thought this was more for everyone, hope it's ok. I'm almost due and people keeping giving me ideas on how to go into labor. Some of them are down right funny. I was wondering what sort of things people had been told or had tried (not that I'm going to be trying them). I just thought it might be fun. So far my sisters have told me to, walk four miles, eat eggplant and pineapple. have sex and then hold my butt in the air as long as possible (this ons is atleast some what true). I've also been told that take a really hot bath it will start labor. I will admit to trying some of this... after all my husban was gone for a year, and who doesn't love pineapple. smile dont take a hot bath that can hurt your baby by raising your internal temperature. try walking that worked for me that and alot of sex has been know to start labor

Some science behind the ideas.
Rasperry leaf- Will actually hold off Labour. It contains a substance the is an ANTI-spasmodic. It eases contractions in smooth muscles (like the uterus and the bowel) given for excessive menstrual cramping and IBS.
Black/blue Cohosh- it is poision and was once used as something to bring on mensus when you wanted to end an early unwanted pregnacy... NOT recomended
Castor oil- no idea why it is sopposed to work but it can cause featal distress
Walking- Plain and simple gravity works
Sex- Well here is the thing many guys/people miss The key to sex bringing on labout is that ORGASM in the FEMALE releases Oxytocin that causes uterine contractions. If he finishes and you don't then there is little point to it as far as bringing on labour. However if you are close to your time then repeted orgasms can get things started.
Massage- Relaxation does help.
Having friends over- Babies come in there own time and their own season and NEVER at your convieniance! Promise of induction- Again it is a relax thing you KNOW it iwll be happening soon and so you stop worring about it and relax... then whoof you are in labour!
With me it was a combination of the promise of induction, plus having friends over... I was two weeks later and had had three false starts... I was soo ready to have my second baby but NOTHING! So I decided that since I would be induced AFTER the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and my doc was going away for the holidays I would relax and have some friends over! We were gonna play bridge. I got the cards all set and shuffled, peanuts and snack laid on and some specialty drinks (non alcholoic for me) and company began to arrive... and I was having braxton hics... you know the lil pre labout contraction that had had me in for false labour before... Ya... well my friend got me to lay down as they were getting intense, but I was totally convinced it was flase... we sat there arguing over it for about an hour and a half when she finally pointed out the she had been timing my "Braxton hicks" contractions and they were now 4 minutes apart and lasting for a minute and maybe I wanted to call the doctor now... hmmm? In the end we laugh about it, but at the time I was just so convinced that I was gonna get sent home again and I felt I could not take that! Well it all worked out just fine!

That's interesting you say that because everything I've ever read on Raspberry Leaf tea says that it "tones the uterus and improves contractions. " In fact if you do a search on Raspberry Leaf Tea in google every site from Neal's Yard Remedies, The Tea Room, and Baby Center all say the exact same thing.

Well, I tried the sex thing, and sure enough... about half an hour later contractions started... sweatdrop
I heard that sometimes this works because of the woman having an orgasm, and also, sperm can have a mild labor inducing effect. Also, the rubbing against your cervix can trigger contractions. It did for me anyway... xp

Walking is supposed to help, but usually you do it after labor has already started.I tried riding in a car on a very bumpy road and playing physical games like Volleyball. Nothing worked I was late delivering both my girls one 2 weeks late and the other almost three.Babies have their own schedule
