Have you ever watched any j-doramas?
They're very engaging / addicting.
A lot of people also like K-dramas.

Mainly because of the dramatic, burning houses down, good stories.
That and Yon-sama.
But really, sometimes I think Korean dramas surpass Japanese ones in popularity - Asia wide

I'm a writer at heart, so any good story with a genuine hook or heart to it always hooks me in. Time can only tell if any of the sars of Asian drama will make the jump to America, though...

Ooh a writer you say? What kind of writing...?
Dorama is hard to find heree, and it makes me sad..
Unless you go to those weird asian markets that rent videos or have asian channels

The only foreign film I've ever seen was Hero because it's the only one my parents think is appropriate for us to watch, but that's Chinese. So the only things I've seen in Japanese is anime. crying I'd love to see some other movies though.

I saw an episode of 天花 (Tenka)... It was interesting, to say the least. Not really my thing though. (I don't care for dramas usually.) But I bet I could get hooked to one easily, especially if it was Japanese. mrgreen

Koiyuki, I love to write too! Is there a drama you'd recommend for having really good writing?

Oh, yes-- I am quite hooked on the dramas "My Boss, My Hero" (「マイ ボス・マイ ヒーロー」) and "Kekkon Dekinai Otoko" (「結婚できない男」). But an older one that I'm watching on tape is "Rondo" (「輪舞曲」), a collaboration drama between Korea and Japan. Love it!!! heart 4laugh

The kind of writing I do is usually dictated by the kind of mood I'm in. The bookI'm working on(and most of my writing in general) is heavily influenced by Japanese culture, both modern, and ancient, and involves a lot of action, emotions, and many other things. Perhaps you would like to see a sample?

And to Akira...hmm...I'd say Dragon Zakura would be one that struck me as particularly poignant. The concept, and general execution seemed very original and fresh to me, and I frequently kick myself when I miss an episode in my local Asian station*living in Cali, you get something of a choice in the matter* Another one I really like(but never got to finish) was Dobutsu no o-Isha san. It involved students going to a veteranary school, wth the main charecter living in a house full of animals, including one very angry rooster called Hiyo-chan. Apparently, it was based on a hit manga, as well.

A sample would be excellent. smile

I'm actually quite partial to Fuyu no Sonata and the Samurai Soap Operas.
