Khal watched as Amélie tried once more to get a crab, and he smiled. "Yeah, I think you'd be better at it." He said with a chuckle.
As the familar shape of Phib came over towards them Khal grinned. "Oh it's quite fun. If you know what you're doing, at least." He said with a chuckle. "Hello again, Phib. How have you been?" He asked, glancing to Amélie as she awkwardly chased the crab. He chuckled again.

The black wolf shook his head, and reclined back onto the drier portion of sand. “Well, I can’t say if I agree.” He remarked. “But, it is somewhat amusing and painful to watch.” Almost on cue, Amélie yelped as one of the claws got a bit too close, but with a quick couple of snaps, she managed to get the crab into her mouth, where it preceded to attack her.
Phib supposed he should be happy that she hunted at least one thing. But in good spirits, he rumbled and turned his pale eyes back towards the older male. It had been a while since he had seen, or even heard much about the other- but perhaps this was largely because he had been so busy as of late.
“I have been good.” He spoke. There had been more then a lion’s share of crises in the past few months- but it had been overall a good showing. “And yourself? It’s been a while since I have seen you. Hopefully everything is well.”

Khal glanced to the female and smiled a little, shaking his head. "She did better than me." He said, motioning to his ear. The blood was starting to clot and he was glad of it.
"Oh, I've been well. Just sort of been roaming around for a while." He said, and by the look of him, it was obvious he had no one around him often. He was fairly dirty, and his scent was mingled only with blood and prey. "Just staying alive I suppose." He said with a grin.

“Ugh,” Phib groaned, looking away from Amélie. “Don’t encourage her.” Despite it all- secretly, he was amused by it and he enjoyed watching her catch them. There rarely was a time when he could say he watched his blind mate hunt.
The remark solidified Phib’s expression, as he turned back towards their old friend. Why Khal avoided pack life so he’d never been able to figure out. He disliked the idea of such an old fellow off and about on his own- even if Khal was miraculously able to survive. “Summer will be ending soon, you know.” Phib spoke, turning his face towards the ocean. “Winter can be a hard time. I hope you know you are always welcome here.”

Khal glanced to Phib as he spoke, and smiled a little. "That is very kind of you." He said, looking out at the ocean as well. "I'm not really one for pack life, though. Long story." He said with a sigh.
As he watched Phibs mate he smiled and laughed softly again. "Although, staying with you for a little while at least might not be so bad." He said with another smile.

Phib nodded slowly. He didn’t pretend to understand why Khal avoided packs, but he respected the older male’s opinion all the same. For as hard spoken and as opinionated as he was- Phib did have a habit of defaulting on older male’s logic. He rarely asked questions. But he was glad to hear that Khal would consider at least dropping by now and then. The aloof nature in the other male over it brought a slight smile to his face, and he nodded again appreciatively. “Well, I wouldn’t be so sure of that.” He spoke, glancing towards Amélie, who was still trying to conquer the crab in her mouth. “You’ll have to put up with crab fishing.” Almost on cue, Amélie yipped as one of the slender claws of the crawfish crabbed at her and she spat the creature out. It fell with a flop on it’s back, and nervously she pawed it into the sand, before picking it up again and running back and forth.
Perhaps the most disapointing part of this all, was that it was Amélie who was the resident expert.

Khal laughed as he watched the female running around again and he shook his head slowly. "Well, perhaps I'll get used to it, and maybe even enjoy it someday." He said with a grin as he brought his eyes back to Phib.
"I know you two wonder about my reluctance to join a pack, and it is quite a long tale that's more appropriate for a rainy night. But let's just say, something happened that I wouldn't want repeated." He said, his normally carefree expression taking over one of solemn silence.
"But enough about that, let's get some crabs." He said with a grin, and began sniffing round for one again.

Phib shook his head slowly, and returned his gaze with a reserved expression. “I don’t make a habit of asking people their lives.” Perhaps if he had known the history of every one of his pack members, he might have been more concerned by it. “From my knowledge I already harbor a plethora of people. Some of them have never done anything wrong in their lives- and some of them have.” He firmed his gaze stoically at the water, and the oblivious Amélie who struggled with the crab. “I myself would be the latter; all I ask for is loyalty. I’ll clean the rest.” While Khal moved towards the crabs and the black wolf sat himself in background, the small grey female skirted forward, her white flanked tail bobbing back and forth in excitement. “You must be of careful this time-“ She babbled, as if she had no idea what had been going on before. Experimentally, she pawed at the mud, and leapt as a satisfied bubble of crap slid from the hole.
“They really are good-“

Khal nodded to Phib for a moment as he spoke, his eyes filled with thanks. He then turned his gaze back to the female and his usual grin returned, his soft chuckle escaping him once more. As the mud bubbled Khal raised a brow at it and laughed again, then started to sniff around for another crab.
"I'll try to be more careful." He said with a bashful tone. His ear still stung from the last crab he had tried to eat, and he hoped it wouldn't happen again, especially with Phib there now.
Khal did as he was told earlier and dug up a crab. It was smaller than the other one, and he figured less aggressive. He looked at it with a calculating stare before he scopped it up in his jaws and bit down hard. It went limp, and he grinned, swinging his head to the others. "I did it!" He said, his words muffled by the crab. His tail swung back and forth happily.

Amélie squeaked happily as the sounds of the other male catching the crab caught her attention. With a thrust of her body she danced to the side, somewhat slopping around in the sticky mud as she tried to catch up with the other male’s process. She was a good crab fisher- but perhaps not so much as when she was excited. Sinking into the mud, the back of her left leg connected with something smooth and flat, and instantly she turned around to stick her nose into the mud and paw out the offending crab.
A bit further on the beach- notably away from the sticky mud, Phib shook his head slowly and lowered himself down on the sand and rocks. He didn’t pretend to understand any of it- but they seemed to be enjoying themselves. And that made him happy- although it was somewhat hard to tell with his stalwart face.
The grey lady pulled her head back up, her nose now tinted a brown color as she made further attempts to get at the crab. But as she did, she started talking again.
"Now you crack it open- but you don't eat the hard parts."

Khal smiled at her, his tail still wagging quickly behind him. He began to search for a rock, and when he finally found one large enough he sat down next to it, looking at it with a curious stare. He set the crab on it, then ran off for a moment, lookinhg much like a pup fetching his favorite toy. He came back with another large rock, and as he held it in his jaws, he aimed at the crab on the rock and smashed the two together.
Crrrraaaack!
Khal smiled widely as the crabs shell fell apart, and he began to happilly eat the insides.

The crab bit at her toes, and she yipped as she danced about. He was waving his claws like a baton- and somewhere in her fuzzy second sight she could see it, made up only of small blue pulsing waves. She tested knocking her muzzle against it- and sure enough, he clamped down with his claw. She silenced herself from yelping, and used the crab’s attack to pull the crustacean out of the water, and quickly begin to bite at it.
The crack from Khal’s crab was loud enough for her to hear even over her own crab battle, and the happy excitement urged her further. Amélie twisted her head to the side and caught it sharply on the left, and with a quick shake and crack of her own, the crab reduced itself to stunned twitching- which stopped soon after she started to pluck off the fallen animal’s claws.
Once that had been accomplished, she rose her head, now sure it wasn’t going to get away. “You got it! It’s very good, yes!” She spoke happily, and wriggled.
Phib glanced at the small mark of red on Amélie’s cheek in slight concern, but she seemed happy enough, and did not say anything about it.
