chaoticpuppet ScarredImage (No offense to Wiccans, I just don't really think I could believe in it personally). I also mean no offence to any Wiccans, but for me, after a while of being Wiccan, I found the belief to be somewhat, well to be blunt, stupid. I've got to wondering about this... It seems the natural evolution of things is for certain Christians to become Wiccans, and for certain Wiccans to become non-Wiccan Pagans. In fact, as the religion of Wicca gets more and more flooded with teeny-bopper Sabrina-wannabes, I see more and more established Wiccans abandoning the title Wiccan and calling themselves simply "Pagan". In fact, it seems to me that what is commonly looked at as "Paganism" now is exactly what "Wicca" used to be, as Wicca itself becomes more and more of a joke. Just musing aloud. Hey, here's a question.... nevermind how many ex-Christians there are here... how many ex-Wiccans are there in this guild? *raises hand*

Are you an ex-Wiccan because it became a joke or because you didn't find the beliefs practical anymore?

ScarredImage Are you an ex-Wiccan because it became a joke or because you didn't find the beliefs practical anymore? Half and half. I realised that I don't believe in the three-fold law of return (though I do still believe in karma), and I disagree with the rede. I believe in some situations it might be nessecary to hurt someone to save someone else. (Ex: Killing baby Hitler) Moreover, the more I looked into the origins of Wicca, the more I saw it as an "invented" idea of Dr. Gerald Gardner. No one knows exactly what he lended to the religion, but it is known that he gave it it's core ideas as well as the rede. As far as I know, he was both an occultist, initiated as a student of Aleister Crowley, and was initiated into a coven of witches at the same time. Being bound by oath, he could not give tyhe secrets of the coven, so he "filled in" the gaps with bits of Crowley's "High Magick". And if you study and compare the two, you can see ALOT of similarities. Thirdly, I have a link to share with you. Now, it may seem intolerant at first, and it is, but read the page with an open mind. The author clearly states that it's not the religion he has a problem with, but the majority of it's followers: http://whywiccanssuck.com/

I am seriously leaning towards abondoning the Wiccan title and becoming something else Pagan, perhaps based around the Romans. So I'll half raise my hand

I feel compelled to say something before people start looking at me as intolerant.
I hate Wiccans as much as I hate Christians. (If you don't know me, that amount would be not at all.) There's certain things about both religions that I disagree with, and certain people in both religions that I dislike, but I do not hate anyone at all.

Son of Axeman 1. Have you noticed this? 2. Has it happened to you? 3. What do you think the attraction is? 1) I don't inquire about people's religion. But really, is it any surprise when over 3/4 of this country is Christian to begin with? Honestly, it isn't really statistically significant that people go from Christianity to Wicca when most people are Christian to begin with anyway, is it? 2) I didn't leave Christianity for Paganism. I left Christianity as a kid because it didn't interest me. It wasn't until many years afterward that I discovered Wicca and adopted the Pagan path. 3) It simply makes sense to the follower. I never liked the idea of the Christian God as a kid or that of Jesus. Makes an interesting story, but I didn't want to form a unifying philosophy of life around it, that was certain. I've always had an unusually deep regard for all life, so Paganism was a logical direction. For many who begin it starts as something a bit more superficial, but not for all.

chaoticpuppet Schildkrote most translations ive seen(there probly are others) involve doing as little harm as you can in life. personaly, i like a good fight, and am enlisting when i turn 18, joining the green berets if i can manage. sound like i could survive peacefully? and my freind sees it as you need to think about every action and consider the consequences before acting. again with green berets, sometimes i wont have a chance. almost never, really. i couldnt do it. Green Beret, eh? The Navy Seals are so much better; that's what I am thinking of now, if college doesn't work out so well. cold water training would kill me, or id do that. and the rede as i see it doesnt allow harm to humans whatsoever, so that counts me out right there. 1.yes 2.if i hadnt done my homework and became a fluffbunny it would've. 3.as was said earlier, forbidden fruit. christians are taught that all other religions are evil and follow satan as a false god.(at least when the preist is VERY conservitive). so they think it might be cool. same basic thing that spawns wannabe satanists.
