whats dark matter??? ninja

That which is responsible for the expansion of the universe by counteracting gravity. Other than that, we don't know what it's made of or even how.

can someone please summarize what dark matter is in one sentence?

The most interesting tidbit about Dark Matter and Dark Energy to me is that the margin of error for the percent of our universe that is these two materials is large enough that it actually swallows up the percent that is regular matter. I spent an hour talking with Neil Cornish about that various sundry things after he gave a guest lecture for a class I was teaching. We know with a few tenths of a percent the amount of regular matter, so thats not the question, its just how very little we know about the things that make up more than 95% of the universe we live in.

Here's a picture similar to the one Dr Cornish used, his had more acurate percents on it though (for normal matter that is xd )

i belive its dark energy that counteracts gravity causeing the unaverse to contine to expand faster to this day

Umm, how can it be used as fuel? neutral

I heard about it possible being used as fuel as well... although from what I hear that's a farfetched hypothesis because we do not posses the technology to harness the power of dark matter. ALthough it would be interesting knowing how to, or at least how it's possible.

i think your mixing up antimatter and dark matter. when antimatter interacts with normal matter they annialate eachother converting 100% of there mass into pure energy.

i dont know much about dark matter, where did you hear about dark matter being used for energy?

Hypersapce by Dr. Michio Kaku. And no, I know antimatter is already used for fuel. It was more like a science fiction leap, I should say.

I'm reading that book now, it's awesome. Only thing I wanna know is, if Riemann is so important, how come it's only Einstein that gets love in the schools?

I... don't know. Maybe he's glorified Riemann's contributions, or maybe, we were so excited when general relativity came to our attention that we just gave the credit to whoever brought it to our attention at the time. Though I hardly think we overglorified einstein.
