In terms of skill, Danny is better, one of the best in the world.
But if I had to have one of them in my band, I would pick Josh Freese. He has some nice beats and he doesn't go crazy as much as Danny. It seems like Danny is purely a progressive player, I'm sure he could hold a beat, but he likes to show off... but I would too if I had that skill.

Danny Carey is one of the best set drummers in the world, and im speaking in terms of fact. not opinion. Josh Freese is just a set drummer that knows what he's doing.

Josh is a great drummer, and he fits perfectly with APC, however if we are just comparing the talent of the two then I would have to say Danny is much, much better. I feel, in my opinion, that he is possibly the best drummer ever. He plays insanely, complex rhythms, and they aren't just average beats, he really mixes it up in every song and never leaves me unimpressed. I think he really pushes it to the limit, and has one of the largest sets of drums I've ever seen, and more to that actually uses it all and often.
