Why do we need one as soon as possible?
And what if our skin is like white but instead of being able to tan we burn really badly?

These are pretty helpful thanks! biggrin But I just have some small questions.

I would guess it's because there's a strong social stigma against people in their teens, or young adult years that STILL haven't found a person to call their beloved, and that makes it even more difficult to be accepted into many social cricles in Japan.

And also, try carrying one of the parasols they carry in local shops around the country. It's a good protector, and good souveneir to take back home.

reeeh!?!? umm... that doesnt sound just like "fitting in" it sound like trying to become them and saying that they have no room in their society for people who dont fit the ideal.

I living in Tokyo at the moment, so I know from experience there are all sorts of Japanese, yes, even fat ones!! (and no, they`re not sumo wrestlers)

but hey, thats just me talking...

These are all useful tips (though I don't think each sentance needs it's own separate post) but I don't really agree with the title, "Fitting In in Japan". I can't speak from personal experience but I can say from reading many books and talking to many people who lived in Japan, worked in Japan and went to school in Japan that a foreigner will never fully fit in. I think all you can do is become a Foreigner who understands Japanese culture and is mindful of customs rather than being a clueless tourists whose presumptions of Japan are based on stereotypes.
