Swingfire Labyrinth Shredder TrbledSol666 Well I guess I'll just post the part in the interview where they say that. Cester: See, this is where you shouldn't print this' cause I'm gonna speak the truth-but ******** it, you should. When we grew up in Melbourne, in the era that we started getting into music, there'd be all tossers on the covers of guitar magazines- people like Yngwie Malmsteem. I'd just look at those wankers and say, "******** that." I don't want to learn how to tap a ******** million miles an hour. Its ******** bullshit. So that just made me go and listen to more Beatles and more Stones, 'cause I wanted to get as far away from that s**t as I possibly could. ******** that whole thing. And going into a guitar store was the most depressing thing in the world. You'd have some balding, jaded, pathetic a*****e in his thirties or forties behind the counter, all pissed off at the world because his musical career never took off, and his personal mission in life was to make you feel miserable because you couldn't ******** tap on the guitar [Muncey launches into an overly enthusiastic impression of an Eighties guitar star in full hammer-on mode. Everybody laughs.] See what I mean? Its ******** stupid. I'd be in the guitar store and see, like 500 guys tapping their asses off at exactly the same time, playing these stupid looking guitars, and they all sound like s**t. All these guys with their noses buried in these books on speed and technique.........[waves his hand dismissively] How plastic can you get? I never cared for any of those guys like Joe Satriani or Steve Vai. It all sounded so devoid of emotion. [Guitar World November 2004] So in other words, this is yet another example of a guitarist who thinks it is cool to suck a** on guitar. "Why would I want to do any of that interesting bullcrap when I can be pulling off pentantonic bends and blues box solos in the middle of my sweet bar chord song lines." Basically he is masking his own failure by blaming everybody else for being too good. I'm afraid I've never seen a shredder at the guitar store who is old fat and balding, those guys all seem to play classic rock (which is what he also plays if i'm not mistaken). So, what's his deal with tapping anyways? Tapping doesn't always have to be lightning fast or anything, just another tool. That's like if I were to say that bends sound stupid and out of tune, or that vibrato 'is for tossers' as he might say. What it all boils down to is that guys like this should be alone, sucking in their basement, rather than sucking in the pages of a guitar magazine. So basically what you're saying is that AC/DC sucks, because that's the way Jet plays. Obviously they're not as good as AC/DC, but they're not terrible, and they don't suck. Blink-182's guitarist sucks. Good Charlotte's guitarist sucks. Jet's guitarists do NOT suck. Maybe they're not as good as Zak Wylde, but they don't suck. Do you guys like anything besides shredding/metal? Ofcourse, I also play blues and classical guitar. You shouldn't judge us just because we don't like their music. Ofcourse there not as bad as other guitars (like g.c and blink) but still, they shouldn't say that other people just because their not as good as them.

The Darkness plays classic rock and their guitarists most certainly do NOT suck. They may not shred, tap like crazy (Apparently that Jet retard thinks tapping is all shredders use, maybe he could never learn to tap or he can't explain how someone can alternate pick that fast) or do arpeggio runs, but their solos are very very nice rocking ones.

Do you guys like anything besides shredding/metal? Yeah I like tons of stuff other than shredding (blues, classical, some fusion doesn't shred). AC/DC doesn't suck but they are very basic. I just have a problem when a very simplistic guitarist critisizes someone else for doing something that's very interesting and difficult. If he is going to compare himself to someone like Steve Vai like that, then yeah, he does suck. One guitarist I really like is Slash, he's not doing crazy shredding all over the neck but he's a great player (in other words, simplistic playing is not a bad thing). But if some lowly Angus Young wannabe is going to compare himself to some like Satriani, then it's his fault for making himself sound like a bad guitarist.

Then again they never insulted people who did somethin like shredding. And for the record, i do like things other than shred & metal. Like classical, baroque, a tiny bit of jazz stuff, and classic rock (but not blues lol)

Well, lemme say this, if Jet didn't exist, it wouldn effect me in no major way. If the broke up tomorrow however, I might have a slight party to celebrate. I would respect them for trying to keep more classical rock alive, but they aren't good enough at it. Maybe if the arrogant d**k head who hates tapping, tries some harder techiques and opens himself up to other music, he'd respect it more. Because his sorry a** can't do it. But then again, maybe he has tried it, sucked horribly, and tried to cover it up by saying that players who do that suck. What a paradox. Then again, we could just let Zakk Wylde beat his Australian a**.
Who the ******** uses "wanker" when they want to sound serious anyway...

This is a very old thread...
And i agree with him to a certain degree. Most people who try to go for the hardest techniques do often sound like they ain't playin' with soul. I absoluetly hate those ten minute shreds that the guitar greats do. And I think they sound god aweful.
"Congrats, you can play guitar faster than everyone else, does your ego feel good?
Now I'm going to go listen to some shitty band and have some fun dancin' an' stuff."
surprised
I personally have a dislike for anybody who thinks that having the best techniques makes them better than everyone else. It's the one thing that I completely hate about the guitaring world, the ego associated with it. I think people who play at a million miles an hour sound quite bad, but whatever. I'm probably going to be flamed to feck for this post.

It's all in your ear dude. If you think that playing that fast sounds bad, then by God, think what you want. I too am a fan of respecting the simplicity of guitar, and still making it sound good. But to them, it sounds great. I like hardcore, so I like simple breakdowns with little patches of scalework thrown in here and there. But saying that playing fast has no soul, that it sounds like s**t just beacause you aren't a fan of it is just an ignorant statement to make. Music is how you make it. If it sounds good to you, and sounds like you're putting in soul, that's your thing. If I was a good shredder, and throwing in crazy sweeps and shreds sounded good to me, and soem guy randomly said it sounded like s**t, then ******** him. If you have a problem with it, don't listen to it. But like I said, to come out like that a*****e did and make that statement, is just ignorance.

Oh, and to avoid confusion. I don't agree with the way that Jet moron went about things. He's included in my irk of giant egos. I can appreciate what he says, especially when I get looked down on by people who think that playing as fast as feck makes them a god over me, but he's a c**k by turning around and doing the same to them.
