Hmm... there was a whole blurb on some Japanese site as to why they closed down the museum, but the lack of funding was just a rumor. People from all over the world came to the hide museum and it was a very wealthy project.
To keep it short, the Japanese fans saw the closing of the museum as closure for all of hide's fans. If you have ever visited the hide museum, it's like a giant shrine to him with his clothes, guitars, and personal objects. To the Japanese, it felt like he was still there watching over his fans that entered and paid their respects. So in closing the museum they felt they would be putting hide's spirit at peace.
There is a mini shrine in
Necromance which is located in LA. There people have left small gifts to hide (like leaving food out for the dead) and have written all over the shrine with messages of goodbye.
Here is a picture of some of the shrine. The awesome people at Necromance let me take it.

If you are ever in LA (Melrose) check out Necromance and sign the shrine! There is also some necklaces and earrings that hide himself designed with the owner of necromance. You can order those online at their site, or just click
this link to browse that section.
Also I think there are still hide tours which are set up like a big movie theater where they show his live on a big screen. People attend it like they would a concert.
