I'd say Final Fantasy VI is the best.
My favorite character was Cyan Garamonde.
Reason:
He was honorable
His Sword Tech skills were amazing
I could identify with him in that I also, like many others, have things in my past that are hard to let go of

So... memorable NPC. I loved the scene between the bar wench and Cyan. So she's my Fav NPC ^^. I hated the old man that wanted the cider... not sure why. I kinda liked the kids, that sung the riddle when you are locke trying to get out of.... forgot the town's name. Oh right. South Figaro.
FF VI is my Fav. I'm very fond of FF IV though. It was my first one, so I get feelings of nostalgia when I think about it. I loved FF VI mostly because of the characters and the awsome soundtrack. I think I can hum or whistle just about every song in that game. They just stick to you. I have the Owzers house song stuck in my head at the current moment. I can say without a doubt, however that Final Fantasy Mystic Crap/Quest was the worst FF in existance. Takes like... 10 or 11 hours to beat, and I don't recall it even having a story. It did have the rainbow bridge. Loves me some norse mythology. Square didn't have anything to do with that game did they?
