BerylAlexandros Rose McCann I'm not very fond of exclamation points in formal writing, though. xp Oh, me neither. There should be rules against exclamation point abuse. Well, like all punctuation, you have to know where and when to put an exclamation point. You don't see elipses in formal writing very often, either; yet they are common in informal writing where people can trail off on a train of thought. 3nodding

Exclamation points don't always suit the writing, even if it should; I'll agree to that. There's times that you want to see an exclamation point in a piece of writing because it fits, and then there's other times that, though it should go there ("The candle blew out by itself!"), it looks weird. Especially too many in one place.

Commas and quotation marks rock my grammatical world.

(and the respective "...." for when you don't intend on continuing the thought...ever) are my personal favorites. Or at least favorites in terms of default favorites due to overuse....

Quotation marks, question marks (they're fun to write, yo.) and ellipses, baby!

I mean, technically, it's okay for the sentence to end that way, but it just looks wrong, you know? I find sometimes that's a big part of punctuation judgement. Some things just look wrong.

I have to say I prefer the period. I'm learning to use other forms properly but the period always feels the most natural. Dashes and colons create interesting effects in papers, but they should be used sparingly.

Personally, I believe that exclamation points are beyond overused. There should be a limit to how many can be used in a given time. The "..." actually confuses me because I am never quite sure of how to use it. I think that I will have to go with the comma and the apostophe because I always correct the people who use them incorrectly.

Sailor_Chibi I know, and it's a lot of fun, but sometimes when you're writing it just doesn't look right. Ah. xD Alright.
