I'm a new learner of this political party, but it sounds awfully familiar. "An it harm none, do as thou will." That's the motto I live by. Do whatever you like so long as it harms on one physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. Is that about right?

liberalism(classic liberalism, not what liberalism means today) falls closely towards libertarianism. The idea of anti-government and pro-freedom. now, I can't remember the last time in america we ever had a president run on that stance and actually committed to it. Reagan did but he basically slowed down the growth of government, not stop it. The ideal president that I would like to have are people like harding and coolidge. They under certain sectors are ranked the worst presidents because they didn't have any "great society" or "new deal" type plans for america. But you know what, that's EXCATLY how a president should be. As tanasha said....the government should leave us alone. And that means everyone, including businesses. All harding and coolidge did was basically lower taxes and remove restrictions on businesses. That is why we had the roaring 20's. And if hoover actually followed the same policy as harding and coolidge, that "great depression" would've been a minor recession. A country should treat an economic depression like a seizure. Just let it run its course.

You've explained it in a broad snse, but if you want to go a little more in depth, the Libertarian Party believes in the downsizing of government to the point where almost EVERY industry is privatized. Meaning, other than the military and the police force, almost everything the government currently does would be privatized. Private sewage, private utilities, private transport (actually, our transport is, except for amtrak, except total privatization would mean that a private company would own the roads) and even a total privatization of education. According to the LP, everything that doesn't involve protection (i.e. military and police force) would be privatized.

or maybe that's according to libertarianism (little l) and not according to the LP. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

Yami no Hitokiri
Guild: A group of Gaians sharing a common interest. It's like a private message board where we can join and share ideas without worrying about spam from trolls.

Libertarian Party: The LP has been around since the 70s. Libertarians believe that individual rights trump the right of the state in every possible way. We believe in a free market and in individual freedoms. If you want to smoke, do drugs, drink, stay out all night, own a gun, etc., that's your business and no one else's.

Wait wait wait. Libertarianism applies to the social scale, not the economic scale (See my sig; Left-Right is Economic Scale, Up-Down is Social Scale). Libertarianism is all about personal freedom and little to no government/gov't interference in personal matters. If you want a gun, get one; if want to say whatever the hell you want without censors breathing down your neck, you can do that, etc..
There are such things as left libertarians. I know this because I am one. Mahatma Ghandi was one, George Orwell was one, Nelson Mandela was one, etc, etc..
