Still tucked against Xue's side, Aishiki offered Ira a soft, slowly-relaxing smile, and as Xue took the book from him, she hesitantly held out a hand. "I'm honored you think highly enough of me to worry. I hadn't realized," she admitted.
"You," he said pointedly, "remind me very much of one of my...companions back home. I like you, Shiki, or I wouldn't have started a hybrid for you."
Startled by the fact that he'd made good on his threat (promise?), her hand drew back, cheeks flushing darkly. "I'm very honored," she said again softly, searching his eyes a moment more before turning to peer at the book in Xue's hand, using it as a means to escape the uncomfortable conversation.

Xue was oblivious to the conversation at the moment, his tail waving behind him from between the slats of the chair as he flipped through the book and let his gaze move quickly over phrases and passages.
