Does anyone know if homeschoolers can do something like the public schools have for an exchange program? I would love to do it, but I'm homeschooled and not sure if it can work that way.

I think as long as you're willing to pay, you'll get the chance. (although it is terribly expensive)

My school has a travel club for the high schoolers.
They go all over the place.
So i realllly hope that when I'm in high school I get to go to Japan ^.^

You might have to wait until college to find a good exchange program. I think that high school exchange programs are relatively rare, whereas many universities offer study abroad programs.

I agree. It's a lot more difficult to find out-of-country trips for high schools than it is for Universities and Colleges. I think they just assume that we're either not interested or can't afford it. I would kill for the chance to go to Japan.

I might be going to Okinawa in a few years and by then I would already be in college. It's a good thing I can stay with my parents until I'm twently-one. 3nodding If I couldn't I wouldn't be able to go! xp

Hah, I think it's more that most public schools are already strapped for cash. Funding overseas exchange programs is probably not very high on anyone's list of priorities.

Well I don't know where you live but here in the Long Beach area, I am hosting as we speak. They actually for our high school, don't care if your child is a student or not, they just need a place for the student to stay and a family willing to take care of them and bring them to school.

My advice is to talk to some members of your board of eduacation. You should be able to contact them through a state website, but google works very well for that as well. I.e., "board of education ____ unified school district"

I don't see how that would help with homeschoolers seems how all you have to do is tell the state you're homeschooling and go on with it.

You might want to talk to your parents about it. Most homeschooling is done through an established school or institution, for curriculum purposes. So even though you don't attend your classes at that school, when you 'graduate' you would be getting your diploma or equivalent certification from the school you get your curriculum from.

If that school has a program for international study abroad, then I don't see why you shouldn't be able to apply for it.

... but yeah, I think you might have to wait for college for a decent program anyway.

Like I said, all I have to do is tell them I'm homeschooling and that's it. I've already talked to my mom and she's no help because she does is tell me to look it up and I can never find anything I'm looking for. stare I wanted to go before college because I already have a chance to go to Okinawa in a few years, but it's not a very good chance.
