I agree that Altaria doesn't resemble a dragon much... well, AT ALL... but why does that have to define what its type is? Beedrill are obviously bee-like Pok魯n, yet they're not Flying-types.

But Beedrill is a Bug-type.

Altaria shouldn't be a Dragon-type for the simple reason that Altaria lacks a key characteristic of dragons: it is not a reptile.

Would you call Jolteon a Bug type? Butterfree a Psychic type? Mr. Mime a Grass type?

All three of those Pokemon learn one of those moves, yet they aren't hat type. I believe Altaria should be the same: it might learn some Dragon-type moves, but that doesn't make it a dragon.

I guess what makes Altaria a dragon in some idiot programmer.

Wow. Kingdra doesn't look like a leeezard to me.

Most of the reason for the types/moves of pokemon are based in real life or mythical animals. There is probably some mythical animal like Altaria that is a dragon. Thus it gets to be dragon type. I will look this up later to see if I find anything.

What was it exactly that made you THINK it was a dragon, because you couldn't have known, unless you checked somewhere, and what is up with you saying graceful all the time, I realise its a nice word and all. Overuse maybe?

EllienaCamile: Ya, Most of the things in pokemon are based of real life or mythical legend. I don't know 'bout you, but I've never heard of the legend of the Dragon Peacock.

As I've said, Altaria reminds me of a bird version of a Chinese dragon. There is probably a creature like that in mythology somewhere.

And don't forget ... Quetzlcoatl is a feathered, flying serpent.

And every picture of Quetzalcoatl I've seen depicts a snake with feathered wings.

Also note that it is called a feathered serpent and not a feathered dragon.

And Kingdra shouldn't be a dragon either, though it's a lot closer than Altaria.

Okay. From the top.

Does Grumping really look like a psychic type to you? No? Okay then.
Howsabout that Heracross? Bit of a stretch to have that part fighting, don't you think?
Ooh! Ooh! I know! How's a Vibrava not a Bug type?
What about Girafarig? Why isn't it just another normal-type?

I've only seen Altaria in my boyfriend's sister's guide book, but it looks like an ice bird. Doesn't look like it should be called a dragon. Plus it looks nothing like a peacock.

Peacock

Altaria

Um....no.

But... I LOVE Altaria! It's so pretty, and it's powerful too! And the world needs more dragons anyway, dammit.

Psssht, whats the highest level Dragon type you have that you've raised from its orginal form. No exp. share.

MipsyKitten: I can't see you're peacock picture.

If you can find me a credible source that gives defining characteristics appearance-wise for psychics, fighters, and normal things, then I will grant you those points.

I agree on Vibrava though. It looks like a dragonfly, but not a dragon.
