I just beat Flannery (soon to be Norman) and I only have three "good" pokemon. They are:

Venusaur lv. 34: (hatched from egg in Littleroot)
Razor Leaf
Strength
Leech Seed
sleep powder

Typhlosion lv. 36: (also hatched from an egg in Littleroot)
Flame Wheel
Flamethrower (egg move)
Overheat (egg move)
Cut

Swampert lv. 37: (starter)
Water Gun
Mud Shot
Take Down
Rock Smash

What new Pokemon should I get? I know these are not the best moves, but I'm not too far in the game, so they work. But does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should catch now?

A good Aron may be of serious help come time for facing Norman. Also, potent fighting-types, like those in the Rock Tunnel--makuhita--may be of some slight assistance. But if you have sleep powder, Norman's gym will be a lot easier. I know it's too early for a ghost-type, right?

Sableye are good to have at the beginning sometimes.

Personally, it's all up to you. However, I would recommend getting at least 2 more Physical-based Pokemon.

Getting a Machop and training it up to a Machamp would be great against Norman. A Breloom would also be a great choice for a versatile Fighting/Grass-type Pokemon, although it might lack the endurance to handle Norman effectively.

For slot #2, consider going with a Golem. Good defense and attack, but you'll definitely want to switch against any Special-based attackers. Gyarados would also be a nice choice (don't worry about Electric-weakness, because Swampy ain't weak to Electric 3nodding ), but try to give it Physical-based attacks to make use of it's massive Attack stat.

An Alakazam or Gardevoir would be a powerful choice for slot #3. I prefer Alakazam over Gardevoir due to Alakazam's greater power and speed, but Gardevoir is pretty nice too. I don't know why, but I almost always find myself finding Psychic-type Pokemon (particularly these two) very powerful in any of my teams.

Well, I hope my post gave you some good ideas! biggrin

Norman wasn't all the hard for me. Hm...well, in Ruby, I'd suggest Aron or Mawile, but you have Sapphire, instead of Mawile, you should be able to catch Sableye in that cave in Dewford. So if you caught one, have him in your team. Their normal attacks will have no effect on it whatsoever.

Go with Shedinja! Woudner guard is an awesome ability so Normal can't touch him!

Shedinja are hard to use due to the lack of good attacks.

Being a Type-based, offense-is-the-best-defense kind of Trainer, I'd suggest working on getting a round Team now.

You've got Grass, Poison, Fire, Water, and I think Ground already, so now I'd strongly reccommend an Electric-Type. Which? Dunno. It's up to you.

Next a strong Psychic will do wonders. Like Frash said, a Sableye would be a very good choice, since it's Psychic and Dark. That means, Psychic attacks don't work and neither will Dark attacks.

Shedinja's Wonder Guard may seem like the ultimate ability that all Pokémon should have, but that's all this zombie bug has going for it.

Plus, if you happen to cross someone like me, ol' Sheddy'll be bug roast before you can say "uber wunder"

And as many have said, Aron would also be a good choice. Why? Well, I'm not going to be redundant with what they've already said.

Or, as Karen always tells me without fail in my three Johto-based versions, "Truely skilled Trainers should try to win with their favorites."
