This movie was kinda wierd and had alot of questions to be asked
Like why did Ed go back to the other side
Can Mustang open the gate and does he even know about it
Why did they leave Whinry all by her self
If you destory the gate on one side wont it be destoried on the other
How do you destory the gate on the other side or destory it at all

I think the reason why he didn't go back is because that he had done deeds that were memorable, and too many people know him. He's been away from his world over a year, and it would be too much of a celebration and a distraction.

Can Mustang open the gate and does he even know about it
In one episode, he was studying about human transmutation. I'm pretty sure there would be some brief text about the gate, since it is the abode of unborn babies and the deceased, and the link between the real world.

Why did they leave Whinry all by her self
As children, the Elric Kyodai have been keeping secrets to themselves, such as studying Human Transmutation. As you saw in the movie, Edward expresses through his actions rather than words. If it were reversed, he would've said, "Al is my brother."

They don't have much of a passionate relationship in the anime than the manga.

The ending of the movie is like the beginning of the series. That would be like asking, "How can you create the Philosopher's Stone?" or "How can we go back to our normal bodies?"

WHY: To destroy the gate on the other side.
CAN HE?:YES any alchemist with the skill and the sacrifice can open it. And I do not know. if i had a guess, it would be no seeing as how no one any episode ever bothered to tell him about it.
WHY:Ed left to close the other gate. Al left because he wanted to be with his brother.
IF:NO. When the gate in Amistris was destroyed, it meant noone from Amistris could enter our realm, but if the gate in our realm was not destroyed it would serve as a one way flight to Amistris with no return package. So that is why the other gate had to be destroyed as well.
HOW: It is built like a doorway, so simply break it or tear it down and it will cease to exist.
