Some might wonder why I bothered to make this guild since there is already a Libertarian Guild. First and foremost, it's nearly dead. To add to that, I was looking for a guild that involved some more serious, focused discussion about libertarianism. Topics that one might like to post in ED-P can sometimes be too narrow and that's where this guild comes in.
Perhaps more importantly, my own bent of libertarianism is fairly liberal and I've found most so-called libertarian associations to be paleo-conservative. This shouldn't discourage more conservative libertarians from participating; it's simply my own approach to the guild and will largely govern how I run the it. My goal is to maximize civil discussion that is engaging to everyone and, as a result, if your take is different you're more than welcome to defend that position here.
I intend to keep this guild active and full of, uhhh, good times. I'm pretty laid back so feel free to toss any questions my way.
Just a few rules and guidelines:
1) Gaia TOS applies here!
Whatever the TOS says for the rest of the forums applies here too. Don't break TOS and we'll all be friends.
2) Don't be an asshat.
Seeing as how this is a politically-based guild it's a given that there will be some heated discussion going on at some point. By no means do I expect people to pull their punches, but nothing below the belt will be acceptable. Examples of something below the belt would be calling someone a derogatory term which, conveniently, is also against rule #1, making my job easy.
Constructive criticisms are fine and welcome, but if I see anything that either breaks TOS or is in extremely poor taste, I will delete and will warn/ban you for it. I will not use the Interpretation A vs. Interpretation B state to excuse such things.
I want this guild to be as enjoyable and run as smoothly as possible. Usual rule of my thumb - and it is my guild - is to treat one another with the general respect you want to be treated with, unless given a reason otherwise, in which case you should either resolve the issue privately or act as civil as possible when in the guild.
The low blows rule applies to both members and non-members, both giving and receiving. And yes, I see the humor in the fact that that sounds sexual..... p***s
3) No spamming.
Or you will be knifed at the time and place of my choosing. Also, proper spelling and grammar, etc is very, very much encouraged.
4) Separation between the forums and this guild.
What you post in ED-P or wherever is your opinion and yours alone. I'm solely responsible for what is said in this guild. As such, only what you say in here should be seen as reflective of this guild; however, do try to keep in mind that despite this ideal many of the comments you post can essentially "******** it up" for the rest of us, and I do hate dealing with the accompanying drama.
5) Public status; or, this is a libertarian guild (mostly for non-member reference.)
So if things seem a little one-sided here, that's because it is and won't be changing. I really like reading other perspectives and dislike agree-fests, hence why I am making this public and do not at all mind non-libertarians joining in on conversation. Just keep in mind that this guild was created first and foremost for libertarians.
6) On logical fallacies.
Don't use them on my watch.
7) We're not ANARCHISTS.
It might be a libertarian oriented guild and I'm willing to accept 'most anyone if they have a good reason to join, but the anarchist, etc guilds are over somewhere out there *points* - not to be confused with this guild.
This is the law. It might seem a little strict at the moment, but I want to make it clear that certain behavior will not be tolerated. I'm pretty reasonable so just try and use some common sense and if something's unclear, then feel free to ask. smile
