The way I see it, political correctness is nothing more than trying to be nice and not offend people or be rude to them. Obviously in any such endeavor we can go overboard. But it seems to me that the general principle of being polite to people ought to be widely supported.
Unless those people are dicks. Then they should be beaten.
It's going overboard, and that's where I have the problem. But, overall, I can somewhat agree with your statement on being polite: we should support it, for the idea is a fine one. I just find that replacing terms which are commonly accepted and used, which do not hold derrogatory connotations because of the truth held in the term, is going overboard.
For the example, see the example I gave on changing the term for 'fat' into something else. They are fat because their body holds a high concentration of fat. If we change the term into something else, it just doesn't follow logic and is silly.
However, I would willfully support getting rid of any negative feelings towards said medical terms.
And would gladly beat those people who are dicks.
