Hm, they say that they changed his name to "Axel" but then on his final special, it still says "AKUTARE" in the background for him when he's on stage (lol).

Thats because NISA didn't want to edit any of the sprites in game. It would add on hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars in copyright fees, even though its only a branch of NIS. In the american version, Akutare is the name of his band. Its a bit of an easter egg I guess...

Er...Guys, the guy from Guns n'Roses is called Axl, not Axel. smile I also believe that names don't need changing - IMO, despite what some broadcasters and game publishers believe, people aren't that stupid as to not learn how to pronounce or spell a name (unless they skipped school, that is).

It's not being able to pronounce it at all..
It's more that if it's gonna be voiced, at least let it be something that can be easily pronounced without hundreds of takes, which in the long run, will cost lots of time and money

Besides, think about how badly people STILL butcher names (PokeMAN, anyone?)

Thats not the only change. When it just barely came out in Japan, previews of the game said Etna's class was a Majin, which is supposed to translate to Demon God. But shes a demon lord/beauty queen

I have no problems with the name change. Nippon Ichi and Atlus have always strived for the best Westernization they can without losing the meaning.

We want Disgaea and other Nippon Ichi titles to thrive. If it's not done "American" enough *shivers in disgust* then the game will not reach a high enough fanbase to keep them releasing more and more Nippon Ichi titles. But they also work hard to keep everything close to orginal.

I say quit complaining about a simple translation change and look at the big picture. Atleast they didnt' name him something like Michael Jackson. razz

Well im more pissed at how they effed up Etna and Zetta's voices. Etna sounded annoyingly snobbish, instead of sensual like in EVERY other appearance she makes. And Zettas voice is just out there
