List of jobs and classes


Side note: Sylvan and Nerid cannot take any warrior or fighter classes except Archer and Fencer. Gryphons can only take magical classes. (* = Upgrade Class, ** = Special Class)

SOLDIER - The Soldier is the basic physical Human class. They are not too fast but have above average physical power. Soldiers are one of the better anti-mage classes for Humans as well. (Basic Soldiers can only use regular swords and axes, no skills.)

*PALADIN (Fe.: Holy Knight) - Paladins are one of the most powerful Human classes, along with Fighters. They are arguably the best tanks in the knight class. They have large HP, defense, and resistance growth (but low speed), and their Weapon DEF+ ability makes them tougher. Defense allows them to augment the defense and resistance of themselves. Cover can be used to protect nearby units by making the Paladin take damage for them, while Holy Sword Skills can cause Holy damage to enemies with powerful sword attacks. This can be useful in protecting your weaker spellcasters. MUST have a Good/Lawful alignment to receive this job.

FIGHTER (Fe.: Squire) - Fighters are the best Human class at fighting. They focus more on offense than Paladins, dealing possibly the most damage of any Human class. They are also more mobile than Paladins are. Fighters use their own basic abilities to aid the party.

*NINJA (Fe.: Kunochi) - Ninjas are one of the most dangerous Human classes in the game. They are fast, evasive, and very powerful attackers. Their basic ability, Throw, lets them use an item from your inventory to inflict damage. They can also use Thief skills and their own trademark, Ninjitsu Arts. Not a very useful ranged attack. Character MUST be Neutral alignment to recieve this job.

HUNTER (Fe.: Huntress) - Hunters are the advanced Human ranged job. They can be powerful support units, but they specialize against monsters. Hunters can Aim their weapons, or Hunt for things on the field to aid their allies.

*KNIGHT/SAMURAI (Fe.: General) - More advanced and powerful versions of Fighters, Knights can use a wide variety of weapons and armor and one of the few classes who can use Heavy Swords, Armor or Spears as well. This class uses special Sword Skills to leave their opponents defenseless. Knights are steamrollers who have very high defense, attack, and vitality, but low magic defense or evasion capability. The Samurai version of Knights are the only ones besides Ninjas of the jobs who can wield a Katana.

BLUE MAGE/*SORCERER - Blue Magi are one of the most unique and versatile classes in the game. They can learn certain monster abilities simply by being hit by them. Sorcerers can use Runes to combine Elementals with their weapons for more magick based physical attacks.

WARRIOR (Fe.: Beserker) - The brutish Warriors are the Lycan version of Soldiers.

*DRAGOON - Dragoons are a cool-looking, powerful warrior class that gets power by imitating the abilities of Dragons and using Dragons as partners in battle. They have the highest base attack power of any job and can attack 2 units simultaneously with Spears. Their Lancer Techniques are extremely powerful air assults in combination with the Element of Wind. The Arcadian Sky Dragoons of Buermecia are the only ones in the world of this class.

*DEFENDER - Defenders are the Elvin version of Paladins.

GLADIATOR (Fe.: Amazon) - Gladiators are experienced warriors, the Sa`bren equivalent of Fighters.

WHITE MONK - White Monks are lighter, more magical units than Warriors. Also known as Monks, they cannot carry weapons, only using their bare fists or claws. But as an advantage to that, their attacks are 2x stronger without Claws. They use Martial Art Skills to double their attack range or power or aid allies.

*TEMPLAR - Templar are more physical offshoots of the White Monk than Bishops, but still have decent magic stat growth. They also have the highest defense growth of any class, making them great tanks. They are an obviously anti-Magic class, great against magic users. Can use short swords and chain mails, unlike Monks.

*BISHOP (Fe.: Cleric or Priest) - Bishops are the only remotely magical class. They are still pretty tough, but can cast some valuable spells. Unlike the White Magi though, Bishops can carry spears and flails and some lightweight armor like Chain Mail. Vampires cannot take this job.

THIEF - The Thief is the primary job of a stealth class besides Ninja. Their special abilities all consist of being able to Steal anything under the sun from an adjacent unit. They can only carry clothes and daggers. Only Humans, Sa`bren, Kitsune, Demons and Elves take this job.

*GUNNER - Except for Gadgeteers, Gunners are one of the most technologically advanced classes, and they tie with Jugglers as the best technological class. Using their amazing weapons, Gunners can damage and inflict status effects on enemies on the other side of the map. They can also use elementally fused Magic Guns to inflict magick and status effects on their opponets, plus the regular attack damage.

JUGGLER/*MIME - The clownlike Jugglers share the spot of best class with the Gunner. They are light and nimble tricksters who can throw a variety of objects to wreak havoc on the battlefield. Only Kitsune and Humans take this job. Mimes can use Mimick, their only attack capability, to Mimick whatever their selected opponent or ally does.

ANIMIST -Animists are nature-loving people that can summon animals to help them in battle. Only Humans, Sylvan, Elves and the Hybrid types can take this job, (excluding Demons and Vampires.)

GADGETEER/*MECHANIST - Gadgeteers are curious people that love tinkering with inventions they keep in Pandora's Box. They have the ability to bless, or curse entire parties with various status ailments by flipping a coin. They are the most unpredictable class; there's no telling which side they'll hit. This randomness makes them semi-useless (and unworthy of being on my team), unless you have equipped items that prevent various status ailments. Both Gadgeteers and Mechanists can use the Tools Skill to use a variety of weapons they themselves have created to aid their allies in battle with.

*BEASTMASTER - Beastmasters are much like Animists; they both use the power of music to control animals. Unlike Animists, they don't summon animals but instead control existing ones. Their abilities let them take control of any monster for a turn. Their main strategic value is obvious: take control of a powerful enemy monster and attack other monsters with it. They are also invaluable for getting an effective Blue Mage because they can force monsters to use any attack. It's always a good idea to bring a Beastmaster along when fighting a monster-heavy party.

MORPHER - The mysterious Morphers have the power to be the deadliest class in the entire world, if you have enough sidhl to make them effective. These mystic people can use their powers to assume the form, moves, and stats of monsters you've captured using the Hunter's ability. The main point of Morphers is to take advantage of monster magic Blue Magi can't use. Only Demons and Vampires take this job.

BLACK MAGE - Shrouded in mysterious cloaks and straw hats, Black Magi are the opposites of White Magi. Rather than healing your party with Holy magic like the benevolent White Mages, they like nothing better than blasting the life out of your enemies with raw elemental fury! Each also has 4 levels of power just like the White Magi. Like White Magi, Black Magi are best off staying behind your fighting units, snooping around blasting the enemies to atoms.

*ILLUSIONIST - Illusionists are some of the most powerful spellcasters in the magic class, wielding visually impressive spells that attack all enemies at once. Unlike Totema, however, they may miss, so be careful. Since the spells always hit enemies no matter the caster's position, you should always keep your Illusionist as far away from the enemies as possible. Only Vampires and Demons take this job.

TIME MAGE/*TIME WIZARD - Except for White Magi, Time Magi are quite possibly the best support units to have. Their time-altering spells can tilt the scales in your favor while incapacitating enemies. They can also use a variety of special effect spells which can alter an ally or enemy's stats.

*ALCHEMIST - Alchemists are a mystical class with great magic stat growth, tying Sages as the second best magic class. They utilize the combination of Elementals with physical objects to create some extremely powerful spells, making them arguably more dangerous than tough fighter units. They also have an innate ability to use items, regardless of whether the item ability is equipped.

ARCHER - Hybrid Archers have slightly more attack power and speed than Human Archers, possibly making them a better choice. Their speciality is staying behind your melee units and riddling the enemy with arrows. They can also Boost their bow attacks to make their shot double times as powerful.

FENCER (Fe.: Retainer) - Fast and powerful, Fencers are the best basic fighter class. They have the usual high physical stat and speed growth, but terrible magic growth. They can only equip lightweight swords and lightweight armor, no shields.

*ASSASSIN - Assassins are definitely the best class, and possibly the best class in the game. They can equip Katanas or Crossbows, have incredibly good stat growth (including the highest speed of any job), and have abilities that inflict some of the deadliest status afflictions in the game.

*SNIPER - Snipers are Archers advanced ranged class, capable of hurting the enemy from a distance with powerful bow attacks. They are best when combined with Archer or Assassin abilities, and should be comboed with a class with high attack power to make them stronger. Their armor selection is mediate, but their ability to carry crossbows makes them a strong ranger unit for the party. They can also use Aim like the Hunters can.

WHITE MAGE - Simply put, White Magi are THE best support units in the classes. Their life-giving spells keep your units healthy, and they can also shield your units from harm. Although this is true, they do not have very excellent stats in attack and defense and their weapon and armor choice is poor.

ELEMENTALIST/CHEMIST (Fe.: Geomancer) - The mysterious Elementalists use the powers of nature to attack and spread status effects among the enemy party. Though they are a Magical class, they have bad Magic stat growth, and instead of using magick, they call upon Sutra Wards to place Elemental Traps on the field and can throw items to far away allies.

RED MAGE/*RED WIZARD - Red Magi are some of the most versatile spellcasters around. They have balanced stat growth and a very wide array of spells from Black and White Magi, Bishops, Alchemists, and Animists. Though their spells are relatively weak compared to the ones from the base classes, their final ability is what makes them great. They can also carry swords and lightweight armor, unlike the other mages.

SUMMONER/*SHAMAN - Summoners can be some of the strongest, best spellcasters in the game. They have exceptional magic stat growth, making their spells, extremely powerful. Their spells combine lots of useful effect spells with a huge area of effect. This area is a great advantage most of the time, but it can make things tough in tight battles. They can summon any Guardian Spirit, but can only summon them each once per battle. Shamans can summon two Guardian Spirits each battle.

**VIGILANTE RUNE KNIGHT OR DRAGOON - Knights and Dragoons whom have the ability to use Runes to combine Elementals with their weapons for stronger magick based physical attacks as well as Sword Skills or Lancer Techniques. Only Humans and Hybrids and Elves can take this job.

*SHADOW KNIGHT - Knights whom use Black Magick in combination with their Sword Skills. Only Vampires, Deamons and Humans can become one. Almost always an Evil/Chaotic alignment. MUST have an Evil/Chaotic alignment to get this job.

BARD (Fe.: Singer)/*MUSICIAN - a semi-useless job class which has the person to sing songs to effect the enemy unit with different status effects, (i.e.: Frog Song). Poor attack, magic and defense status, mediocre speed and dexterity. Can't use heavy duty armor or weapons. Musicians can also use their insturments to make their singing more potent. Only Humans, Sylvan, Elves and Nerid can become bards.

DANCER/*ORACLE - the same as Bard job class, except that dancing causes status effect or white magick. Oracles can use insturments to double their dancing's potency.

**SERAPHIAN CRUSADER - warrior class of the Seraphian Tribe, mostly dedicated to nobles and military men. They protect the Crystal Palace and Her Majesty's court. They are the equivalent to Paladins and Knights of the Vangelian Royal Guard, with a mix of Vigilante and Mercenary talents. Most can use both Sword Skills and Holy Spells. Only Seraphian of Lawful/Good or Nuetral alignment can take this job.

MERCENARY - a freelance Soldier or Knight whom wanders the lands in search for jobs. They kill or find treasure or save an important person for money. They do not bow to any Master, (similar to Ronin or masterless Samurai). They also use Fighter Skills.

*NECROMANCER - the darkside of the Wizard classes, Necromancers can summon the dead and evil spirits using incantations and summoning spells. They are usually the pure embodiment of evil, using brute force and control to bring forth their legions of the undead. Usually Vampires, Humans and Deamons take this job. Only those with Evil or Nuetral/Chaotic alignments can achieve this job.

**PEGASUS/WYVERN/GRYPHON KNIGHT - Lance wielding soldiers, (whom can also use bow and arrows and swords once they reached a certain experience), who mounts and rides pegasi (winged horses), wyverns (dragons; i.e.: The Arcadian Sky Dragoons), or gyphons for not only longer movement range, but the ability to land just about anywhere. They are, however, VERY succeptable to Archer attacks. (The people of Ilia and Avalon are the only ones who can ride Pegasi, the people of Arcadia and Buermecia the only ones to ride Wyverns, and the people of Avalon and Katra-Lindon the only ones to ride Gryphons)
