It oculdn't work. Toward the end, after Past the Point of No Return, When erik drag Christine into the dungeons, Erik, being a girl would not be able to pick up and throw around Chirstine, being a guy. Chirstine would to easaliy escape.

It could work, mademoiselle. It just depends whether or not you have all the knowledge you should have.
Going by the ALW movie/musical? Less of a chance, but still possible. Not only that, but Christine had no knowledge of how to get through the passageways, nor would she have been able to get past the port cullis. It is possible, my dear.
Book? Most certainly. If Christine were so easily duped by the voice of an angel, who's to say that a man wouldn't be, under the same circumstances?

I think Music of the Night would be really nice if sung by a female voice... Also, the Aaaaah-ing at the end of Phantom of the Opera the song, would be cool down the octave and sung by a man!

Mme Giry Asueway I have always thought of that... but the thing is most of the song would be changed if you were doing it musical or movie form. Past the point of no return would be really odd...and same with the Phantom of the Opera.
But it would be cool and weird. Still it would be like Erika and Christopher or Chris and Raoul well what you guys said. Still it would make everything more complicated...
"In sleep she sang to me" Hehee. That'd be funny, :3 "Woman and mystery were both in you" it sounds wrong, and Raoul might be a manly girl *giggles* kidding.

I have decided if he were female he would pine and die alone rather than act on his obsession. Think Les Mis, with Eponine as Erik, Marius as Christine, Cosette as Raoul.
But that's just me.

fuokohopin .[Morbid]..[Phantasies].. That would be interesting, I wonder if anyone has done a fanfic like that, I'ld read that. You would not believe how many people have written fanfics like that. Go stroll through fanfiction.net. Oh Lord. x) My friend and I do more than stroll through there. SheespeciallylikestheratedMs ;coughcough;
But really, I agree with most of you, it wouldn't work out as well with a gender change, it's just too well-worked out. Though, I would love to see Raoul(ette) crying over a chipped nail.. ;cackles;

I think that he should stay a man. Becuase, if (in the book) everyone was being haunted by a women, they wouldn't take her seriously because she's a women ; those were very sexist times.

That...wouldn't work at all.
So...since the gender roles are switched, Christian(tine) would be fooled into thinking that Erik(a) is the Angel of Music promised by his dying mother (?).
Then Raoul(a) will be the one to guard and guide him, like a new mother figure (oh lord...sort of an Oedipus complex lol ).
As interesting as the plot might be, it won't work. What the hell is Don Juan Triumphant going to be? Don(na) Juan(ita)? or Valentina? Blech.
