Sounds like a pretty nifty alternative. It would have to be either a gamble, or a very weak source of income, though. Also, there should probably be a shop where someone could coin the gold, perhaps for a fee.
I was more thinking along the lines of it being like Fishing.
Where you sometimes get gold(money), Iron, Steel, etc. Which can eventually be made into body armor or helmets.
Though the thing about this idea, it requires 2 things:
1. For the mine to be implemented.
2. Body armor to be implemented.
Probably cause a lot of chaos among Gaia.
I think he meant that if you could mine for gold or precious metals like that,it'd have to require a lot of luck/cost something in return or else everyone would be rich and clad in shiny armor.

Besides, Gaia's economy isn't gold. It's gold coins. The gold would have to be coined somehow if you wanted to use it as money.
That's why I said "Gold ( money )" rather then the mineral itself.
Maybe I'm not understanding. Why would you get gold coins from mining?
it is a minigame, definitive logic is not necessary for how it works
