I am a n00b to FFVII, seeing as I have never played the game (just researched endlessly). I understand the story and charactors and where everyone came from and why they are part of the plot, although that may be because I'm a little quicker than most when it comes to retaining and creating storylines and such. For someone a little slower than I, I would try having them play the game a billoin more times, because there is never too many times to play a Final Fantasy game. If they still don't get it, ask yourself WWSD? (What Would Sephiroth Do?)

Be patient with your cousin. For some people it takes longer to understand things. And when your patients runs out then give him a detailed talk about the game. And please don't hit him with the game. That's un-needed abuse to the game and your cousin.
