Abacus slowly nodded. That would make sense for each Bael to have their own preferences -- they were individual monsters, after all. What sense would it be if there was one universal instrument that they liked? It would be easy for Empyrean or Outsider to command many at once. He shook his head, then focused on the next topic.
"Is it possible to counter their... electricity, you called it? With magic? Or is there any way to disable or interrupt it?" The Journeyman asked once the cholerics asked their questions. He wanted to know if Empyrean magic could be used to heal the Ipes, but that subject may come up in Magical Theory later or in Lelaus' answer to the other two's questions.

Raelyn blinked and smiled slightly as she tucked her hair behind her long ears and then folded her hands on her lap. "Well, Chromatics and Golem creation are very different subjects. While Chromatics are a tool that can be used in many practices - including Golem creation - Golem creation itself is a complex and singular art. There are many steps to it, and it can be much more of a co-operative art. So, which subject would you like to focus on today?"Raelyn shifted her satchel up onto her lap, ready to take out whatever supplies she might need for the tutoring session.

Lelaus listened carefully, trying not to miss any questions this time. "Uh, no, let's make an important distinction! There is no Electricity used in Empyrean City. We use Electric Essence - that is, we achieve similar effects through our magic, but we don't use the airwaves like the Outsiders do. Therefore, the Technoequips and such won't cause poisoning to an Ipes. Mind you, if you were to fire an Electric type spell or Castor Shell at one, you could seriously injure it - since it's a direct blow and all, but just being around electric Manna won't hurt them. Now, there hasn't been any substantial research done on the effect of long term confinement to a technoring, because it makes an Ipes angry to be separated from the flow of the world for that long anyway, so I wouldn't recommend keeping one unless you plan on releasing it often." Lelaus smiled at Daggart and then turned to Cypress, hoping to answer his last question and hers at once. "Well, the signs can be very subtle. Normally an Ipes glows brightly - like the Faries of olden days - but when they're ill or toxic with electrical build up that glow diminishes and the Ipes begins feeling depressed, irritable, confused and lethargic. When the glow extinguishes entirely, they will kill themselves. It's said that the Ipesi who die in this way become Hiisi." Lelaus sighed and shook his head, disgusted that such treatment still occurred in the world. "Treatment isn't complicated, but it's very time consuming and not guaranteed. You have to find or plant a circle of mushrooms or flowers or trees that are magically potent - such as those you learn about in Botany - and place the Ipes in the centre of these and keep watch to make sure the Ipesi is given plenty of dew to cleanse the toxins and kept in high spirits. If you've reached the Ipesi early enough, and you are vigilant, the conditions can be healed, the toxins expelled and the Ipesi returned to normal. Sometimes, though the Ipesi won't have the strength to heal itself and will wither and die anyway. Medicines like allamanda and genista and the like can be helpful to bolster strength or clarity, but won't heal of their own accord." Lelaus turned at last to Abacus and grinned. "There's a very effective counter to Outsider electricity: Ether. Raw ether, and to a lesser extent Essence is a perfect disabler of Electromagnetic waves. It's partly because of the fact that manna use causes anything made of electric currents to malfunction that we don't use any Outsider gear as is in the City. It's also partly due to this that the Outsiders consider us so dangerous. It's also part of what makes Empyrean locales so safe for the Ipes to transmute around."

Khamsyn knit his brow and scratched his chin, thinking. On the one hand, learning more about chromatics and the visible spectrum of colours could have a more widespread and practical purpose than golem creation, he was definitely intrigued by the latter subject. The same held true for mandala's. By the sounds of it, the art of golem creation might not be useful in the average situation, but it sounded like the process encompassed many other aspects of art as well. Even though he had no shards and no money to purchase one at this time, he nodded to himself and made his decision. "If it's alright with you Professora, I'd like to learn about golem creation. I just can't shake the curiousity I feel towards it. If there is time left afterwards, maybe we could touch base on some of the visible spectrum of colour. Like the primary's at least."
Khamsyn shifted from one foot to the other as he watched Raelyn for any sign of disappointment over his choice, or conversely a pleased look. He really didn't care if she wanted to cover colours exclusively. If that was the case, he'd be fine with that. There was just something about knowing how golems are designed and made that stirred his imagination however. Regardless, he'd already unknowingly decided that he'd have a golem or two someday. Even if he had to get them designed by someone more skilled and knowledgable un the subject.((continued via private message and posted in Khamsyn's journal thread))

Cypress jotted down notes of what Lelaus said, pausing at a few unfamiliar terms. She should really get more tutoring in Science, she was discovering. What was the difference between Ether and Essence? And which did magic use, or did it use both? Cypress frowned and bit on her lower lip, trying to make sense out of everything. It was obvious she needed to know more, and she was finding her areas of curiosity to be, surprisingly, science and magic. She didn't think, offhand, that the two could blend harmoniously, but still, weren't castor shells made of magic? Maybe it would work out well. But, back to the Ipesi.
Professor, how would you grow a ring of plants soon enough to help the Ipesi? Are there such magically potent rings already in existence to aid the Ipesi? she asked, now wanting to know how to identify "magically potent" rings of plants. Perhaps Botany would be a good study as well . . . oh dear. There was simply too much to learn! She was starting to get slightly frustrated, her lack of knowledge impeding her seemingly everywhere she went. Well, she'd just have to learn it sooner or later . . . preferably sooner though, of course.
Thinking, Cypress thought of a possible solution, though one that wouldn't do much until she had Transcended and had her own home. If she had an Ipesi, she could easily figure out all the "magically potent" stuff and have a ring already grown and prepared in the garden in her home so that, should her Ipes run into any electricity (heaven forbid!), she had an instant cure. There! That should solve it!
But, of course, two more words caught Cypress off guard and unawares; allamanda and genista. Medicines? Where would she learn about those? Botany? Cypress sighed and shook her head. Well, she'd just write it down for now, taking her best guess at spelling, and attempt to figure it all out later. What else could she do?

Abacus tapped his chin thoughtfully, listening. Right now he really wanted to see an Ipse in order to be able to picture it, and apply what he was learning to its image. For now, he was left to his imagination... which really didn't help, considering the only physical detail he had was the fact that Ipse could glow. What color? How bright?
These are questions that are reserved for another time, he decided. "Is there any way to aid the Ipesi in healing? Or another 'monster' such as another Ipesi?" He inquired, "and do the Ipsei that lack the strength to heal themselves... Do they, too, turn into Hiisi?"
And then the talk turned to tactics. He knew that Essence was part of an Empryean and made them who they were, but ether? Didn't Gregor mention something about that...? I'll need to consult my photo album again to see and make sure. "So if I understand correctly... Ether and Essence can put a serious kink in Outsider's "electricity" which is harmful to an Ipes... Would an Electric-type spell work the same as Outsider "electricity" or would it overpower it, being Empyrean? Added to that, are there any Empyrean spells that would aid an Ipes in recovery or general health?"

Daggart nodded throughout, intrigued by the answers Lelaus put forth. So, electrical mana was different then electricity... but resulted in similar effects - made sense. But... was one more powerful then another? If everything the Outsiders made use of depended on electricity, didn't that make it just as potent a thing as electrical mana? Otherwise, he couldn't understand why they were such a threat. "Mmm.... What's stronger then? Electrical Mana or Electricity?" He nodded towards Abacus and smiled, "Yeah, what he said."
"Innit raw Ether bad for Empyreans too? And not just monsters or Outsiders?" He thought he'd heard that somewhere... it tickled his brain and demanded his attention, "How're we supposed to use raw Ether if it hurts us too? Seems just as bad as playing with fire to me."
He took another moment to ponder as he considered Cypress' comments before asking one more question, "Is there any ring that's better then another? Would a ring of trees, say, be better then a ring of mushrooms?"

Khamsyn walked into the Teachers Lounge a lot less nervous now. He was finally coming into his own through all the personal study he'd been doing and the interactions with other Empyreans he'd met. A little could go a long way it seemed. Pausing after we walked through the door, he took a visual scan of the room, looking for the Professora he sought. And there she was. He took a deep breath, forced himself to stop staring at her before he even started, he walked right over to the Rhetoric Professora and cleared his throat.
"I'm sorry to disturb you Professora, but I was wondering if I might have a word with you about your class." He waited calmly until she indicated he could speak and then he continued. "Through personal study, I have already begun learning several facets of Rhetoric. I have mastered a number of mudras already and a few chakras as well. So, what I'm wondering ma'am, is if there is an equivalency test or something to obtain class credit for my personal studies." He paused again with a little smile and raised his eyebrows wondering how she'd respond. As an afterthought he spoke up again before she could answer. "Not that I'm trying to avoid your class at all. I'm going to be there, front row when it begins, it is just that I really want to transcend so obtaining the credit now would hasten things quite a bit."
He now waited to see just how she'd respond. He didn't care if she quized him right then and there about the mudras or chakras that he'd learned. He'd drilled himself on all of them before he came here. He was ready and logically, he knew more Rhetoric than some of the Ones already out there. He honestly felt that he had a firm knowledge of Rhetoric, so why not get credit for it?
Out of the corner of his eye, he looked for Professor Eleuthero, the Philosophy teacher, because he needed to have a similar talk with him too.
Mellonia spoke calmly to him though she did not have the time to administer the quiz for credit, she did offer up one of her students, a Stage Two Empyr named Pasha, as a suitable replacement. Handily enough, Pasha was there speaking with the Professora and graciously accept the task of tutoring Khamsyn. She even went as far as to tell him to bring a few others who may also require class credit for Rhetoric and she would tutor them as well. They set to meet in the Flora Gardens later that day.
