It's really actually different for everyone..
For example: Some people, soap does nothing, they need actual perscription or something. Others just need to wash their faces daily. For me, putting foundation over my zits sometimes gets rid of them, which is weird cause you'd expect makeup to make it worse sometimes xD
Special face washes and soap does absolutely nothing. If I try to clean my face sometimes it gets worse. So I just leave me face alone, and don't touch it at all, and sometimes my acne goes away.
So I suggest you first try going a couple of days without touching your face, only wash it with soap before you go to bed. Keep your hair away from your face, etc.
If that doesn't work, try washing your face more often, or try special acne soaps, and so on. Keep trying different things, it's different for everyone. =D

I have never had problems as bad as you. I do get bumps on my arms and a few various other places. To get rid of them I scrub my arms roughly, apply cleanser and then use a cool cloth to close the pores. After a couple of days I see a difference.
I have a friend that had acne so bad it looked like he was a serious burn victim. After seeing a doctor, his acne cleared up in months. He has scars though, so act fast.
