I like the ending, and I don't think that a sequal would be good. I don't think that there could be one, as the ending of the first is Christine and The Phantom parting. I don't see what would be accomplished by making a sequal; there isn't much more to tell.

Maybe a prequal that focused on either the Phantom or Christine, since they did have some hints about both of their pasts, but they didn't get really detailed. I think that they both have interesting pasts.

I do believe that's what Susan Kay's Phantom is for, at least for filling in the gaps on Erik (I'm not sure what it has in there about Christine... I've never read far enough).

They don't need a sequel, they need a videogame 3nodding

Susan Kay's Phantom kind of covers both sequal and prequal. I think the sacrifice/finality of the story is WHY everyone loves it so much...its sad in a good way.

I haven't read Phantom of Manhattan...must check that out.

As far as a Chrstine prequal, I havent seen/heard of one yet. Though I have a feeling her life is not quite so intriguing as Erik's was.

ALW considered making a musical sequel in the late 90's and even wrote some music for it, but it was so badly received that he rewrote the songs for some of his other musicals and the idea of a Phantom sequel died quietly as it ought to.

There have been many book sequels to the novel and they've all failed in my eyes. Phantom of Manhattan was absolutely wretched, Journey of the Mask was less so, and Progeny was... odd.

The book does well by itself. A sequel is a terrible idea. There is nothing more that needs to be said unless you wish to create another "Cosette", for those Les Mis fans who remember the book.

Cosette... ha ha. Didn't a woman write that book? No wonder it failed. I see the hardback copy sitting in the used book store every time I go in there. One day someone will be sucker enough to shell out 15-20 (Canadian) for that mint condition copy.

No intention to be sexist, but most females fail at writing good stories. I've never finished Kay's Phantom, but really... most females don't write good stuff. I'd like to think I'm an exception, but I'm probably wrong, haha.

Anyway, not to beat a dead horse but NO SEQUEL. The finality and some things that are unknown and to be speculated are the fun of the stories. You take that out and you mostly destroy the fandom. There's no more questions to ask.

I agree with the idea of Meg's story, but it would have to be a pretty brilliant person. Phantom in Manhatten was rubbage. No segual. Leave it at Phantom gone.
