Given the fact that he had a fair deal less clothing to remove, it took Amikai a sight longer to get himself to the bath, taking his time to carefully fold everything, turning out his pockets to make sure that what little he'd stashed in them wouldn't fall out on accident. He tucked his sandals under the folded clothes, wrapped the towel around his waist, tied up his hair and padded quietly out to the communal bath.
Considering his age and the number of jobs he'd probably seen, the older Gehaka wore very few scars. There were a handful of old lines across his shins, bright and white against his dark skin, and a smattering of nicks and other old marks that spoke clearly of Amikai's life of working, predominantly, odd jobs and manual labor. With an amiable sigh, breathing in the steam that moved off the bath, Amikai stepped down into the bath a respectable distance from Tensa. Once submerged in the almost scorching hot water, he let his head fall back gently against the edge of the bath and waited for the hot water to draw the ache out of his shoulders; he wasn't used to being stooped over a workbench all day. In some way the work was far easier than most things he'd done, but in others... Absently, Amikai rolled his left shoulder, working out the tension knot and glancing briefly sideways at Tensa.
Where he caught sight of just a hint of that patterning which wrapped it's way gracefully across the younger Haka's skin. Amikai looked quickly away, let himself sink further into the water until his chin hovered anxiously over the surface of the water.

Tensa's coal black ear turned as Amikai padded out toward the bath. A sliver of silver eye cracked open to sneak a glance along the now largely uncovered Gehaka. He'd expected more wear and tear honestly, and was glad to see he was incorrect. He didn't turn away either as his employee joined him in the heat, the sudden displacement of water causing a wave to push up against his collarbones.
Turning suddenly, Tensa rolled over, so his chest was pressed against the edge of the bath, arms folded on the lip, head resting on the pillow they formed. He released a heady breathy groan quietly, before opening his eyes again. Amikai had dropped down to near submergence, chin just over the surface of the water, eyes carefully pinned elsewhere.
"What do you think-- a great way to end a business day?" He was half teasing of course, but wished again to draw Amikai into conversation, anything to hear that lovely gravely voice. He almost got shivers every time he heard it.

Amikai wings moved absently through the water, the fine ligaments stretched out through the heat as his body twisted just so, so that he could still sit close to the wall of the bath without catching his wings uncomfortably between himself and the stone of the bath's siding. "Certainly better than going straight home," he agreed amiably enough as his gaze flicked purposefully up toward the ceiling.
Stretching suddenly, Amika rolled his center of gravity forward and struck out across the width of the bath. An old habit, to wander when he was anxious - so much so that perhaps he didn't even realize he was doing it. It ran in the same vein as that habit the Gehaka had of keeping his hands busy; had to be moving, had to be doing something, almost as a distraction for either himself or those around him. "Your work is interesting," he said at length. "You'll have to teach me how to read your clocks properly." He had an idea of how they worked, certainly, but not any real knowledge when it came to determining the exact time of day. Amikai tended to gauge his days in 'morning, afternoon, evening' and, perhaps if he was feeling particularly clever 'mid-morning' and so forth; that was probably as sophisticated as Amikai ever got with telling time.

Tensa lay still as Amikai thrust out into the water, cruising along the width of the bath in one easy stroke. However, as he passed out of Tensa's range of vision, the younger haka did not bother turning his head to follow his movements. Instead, the silver eyes closed, and only the coal black ears traced his direction, like two long satellites.
"Your work is interesting."
The voice came rather suddenly from the opposite side of the bath. Tensa shifted minutely and cracked open one eye barely to see Amikai, trying to read his expression, and determine honesty. He wasn't expecting a lie, but rather, an attempt to kiss up, sort of.
"You'll have to teach me how to read your clocks properly."
Tensa smiled minutely. He was genuinely glad to hear Amikai expressing interest in learning some of the more formal intricacies of time and mechanics. Rather than explaining every unusual phenomenon on gods, or luck, but on concrete provable evidence. Tensa turned around fully, examining Amikai for what seemed the millionth time, trying to figure him out, with perhaps a bit of touched admiration.
"I would gladly assist you with anything you wish to learn."

The older Gehaka looked back at Tensa honestly, features closed off and walled up, but looking back at the other Hanze nonetheless. Given Amikai's tendency to avoid eye contact in general - let his eyes wander, his face turn away -, it was something at least; perhaps not what Tensa was hoping to find in the Gehaka's countenance, but something.
"I would gladly assist you with anything you wish to learn."
Oh, but that sent him looking away again. Amikai's pink tinted ears flicked sharply and, looking like he was shifting awkwardly in his own skin, the older male let his attention wander and skid aross the surface of the water until he found himself examining the siding of the pool convienantly opposite from Tensa himself. Amikai drifted further in that general direction, wingspan working unconsciously back and forth in soft paddling motions which kicked up the water this way and that.
"I wouldn't mind learning how to make those music boxes," Amikai remarked quietly as he reached the opposite side of the bath, hooking his elbows over the edge, resting his chin on his folded arms. He tipped his head faintly so he didn't give the impression that he was talking over the wall; even so, he was definitely avoiding general eye contact by essentially using the edge of the bath and his positioning to talk over his shoulder at Tensa. If he flushed a little it was certainly because of the heat of the bath water rather than because of any awkwardness.

For a moment he thought he found a connection with the older gehaka. For the instants that their gazes met and he could earnestly look into the deep pools belonging to Amikai, Tensa believed he had forged some sort of bond, but the moment the words left his mouth, it shattered, and Amikai struck out for the wall opposite him. Tensa let himself slip further into the heated water, bringing the water up to barely touch the bottom of his nose, as if the small liquid barrier would keep him from further alienating his assistant.
Though from the way the gehaka was sitting against the wall, focused so to only throw remarks over his shoulders, it probably was difficult to see, but Tensa seemed a little hurt, pouting silently to the steam. It was odd considering what Amikai was saying. Both personal and impersonal, committing yet nonchalant, tantalizing and infuriating somehow. But, perhaps the haka was just being moody and well, a haka.
He felt the urge to make a flippant remark and brushed it aside. Bubbles of air released from his lips as Tensa answered into the water, nothing audible or intelligible emerging. There were things in the world perhaps he could never understand.
