(Any player who wants to post info on their own created mage clan can post it here.)

In Merreltrach, the only mage village on the continent where humans live, the Lighthawk Clan is the supreme order, with a few Frostfire clansmen acting as guardians to the supreme clan.

Mages speak Amphrell as any Catholic might speak Latin. For blessings, curses, or other religious moments. (Amphrell primer pending. Lots to write. Ask or footnote and I'll translate.)

There are ceremonial rites all mages follow.

Marriage- Mages use a song to proclaim their love to the one they wish to marry. It's strictly against Mage law to arrange marriage. The song is not taught or passed on by elders, rather, it is improvised to keep the feeling of individuality.

Rite of Passage- Mages reach adulthood when they are finally able to summon their guardian spirit, whatever that spirit may be. The summoning takes no longer than a few minutes, but after this happens, often a feature will appear or change on the mage physically. (Ex- Lighthawk mages' eyes turn gold.) A lavish festival will be thrown to celebrate this coming of age, including a solo concert from the mage that ascended.

Funeral- An ascended mage is given a rather lavish funeral, which takes a few days to complete. The first day is spent dressing the body in ritual beads and jewelry, all the while performing hymns and elemental rites on them. The second day is spent away from the body, preparing the place of burial. Mage tombs are typically below a tree, a sort of woven crypt lavishly adorned with the same sorts of jewelry. The third day, a procession leads the body into the crypt where a few last hymns are sung. The crypt is then buried.

However, a mage that didn't yet ascend, such as a child, will be treated differently. This process takes four days. The first day, loved ones spend braiding colored or metallic ribbons into the deceased's hair. One braid for every month of life is made. The body is adorned with flowers, some made of gold or other solid metal. The second day is spent purely in ritual hymns or spells, as a warding off of similar events in the future. The third day the crypt is built, and the fourth the funeral procession carries the body to the crypt.

Births- When one is born into a mage clan, they undergo a ritual which often includes tattooing to mark them as part of that clan. Each mage clan bears distinctive tattoos, around the eyes and hands, and sometimes the chest or back. They are presented with an heirloom at this age that they keep their entire lives, most commonly a necklace or headdress. The Lighthawk clan uses both a necklace and headdress in their birth rituals.

Greetings and gestures

Mages bow strangely. They extend the right hand, almost as if to offer a handshake, and hold their left hand against their lower back. They place their left foot forward a bit and bend only at their right knee to bow, and bow low. The palm of the right hand must face upward the whole time.

Another gesture mages use is a salute of sorts. The right hand comes up to the right side of the face, knuckles out, sort of curled around itself. The index finger must point the highest skyward. This is usually accompanied by a brief Amphrell blessing.

There is a rather obscene gesture that mages use. A hand is made into a fist, thumb outstretched, and the heel of the palm is placed against either the mouth or forehead. This basically means "dumb" or "loudmouthed".

The Clan of the Frost Dragon, Amfeketalai

This clan is a reclusive one, staying to the northern limits of the continent where the snow is common and the weather is much cooler. The north is a heavily forested taiga, so the exact whereabouts of the Amfeketalai's village remain a mystery.

Amfeketalai himself is a great frost dragon, vain and lighthearted, admiring anything that catches the light with eyes of silver curiosity. He can take a human form at will in any shape or size he wishes, but prefers his own shining scales to adorn himself with. He appears to mortals much more commonly than most Mage deities, but he's known to be a trickster and a con artist. To his paladins he is gracious, but to outsiders he is difficult to outwit.

Amfeketalai members often bear the scaly, bony ears of a dragon and a pair of short horns atop their heads. They may or may not have a scaly white or silver tail, thickly armored by bony portrusions along its length. They typically are very tall, sometimes breaching eight feet, and shave their heads to clear it for tattoos. They love jewelry and body art.
