Do you think he asked for forgiveness to save himself from Hell, or to end personal torture and guilt?

Either way it's escaping from Hell.

Well no, because if it was the first one Hashem would still see what was going on and punish him like the other Nazis.

'Hell' doesn't necessarily mean Ghenna.

Death is open to interpretation by all in Judaism - pick what you want. My personal beliefs about life after death is a form of reincarnation, caused by reading Jewish writings, evidence I have seen and heard, and the fact a member of my family can remember life before death... but not this life.

All I mean is that either way the man was trying to escape some from of torture.

It's funny that a device designed to warn us of danger causes so much grief. I hate pain. It should be replaced with a buzz or something.

I strongly disagrre, but to end the tangent I will reiterate that I can't even imagine how to answer the question.

You don't have to. Just ask yourself what you'd do in his situation.
Imagine I'm a dying Nazi. I killed your brothers and sisters, but I appear to have changed and I'm imploring your forgiveness in my final moments.

That's just it; I really can't imagine how to answer it.
On the one hand, he man seems to be truly sorry and repentant and therefore f I can forgive him then I guess I should, to free him from the Hell of guilt for crimes he truly knows were wrong and should be absolved of.
On the other hand, he's a nazi, a mass murderer of my people, my bretheryn, who represents and organization which has enslaved me and is in the process of working me to death while they humiliate and dehumanize me and everyone I care about and meanwhile decide to punish everyone for crimes they haven't committed and shoot and burn my family right down to my baby sister.
Then again, I suppose that there just spelled it out, didn't I? The other hand seems to put a great deal more emotion in my heart...

Welcome to the Dark side of Unforgiveness. Don't worry, I brought a flashlight.
We can see where your heart is on such matters. Don't tell yourself that you'd forgive because you think it's the right thing to do if it's not how you feel. Lying to yourself is a henious crime.

I honestly didn't know how I felt until I wrote that and made it pretty clear.
