Jani frowned watching his 'little brother' leave. He lashed his tail holding his head high for a moment longer before that noble crown sank almost between his shoulders. Padding up to Umeme he did something he would be very unlikely to do normally he embraced her. Wrapping that slender swan like neck around her shoulders. He was silent. He didn't need nor want to say anything he simply needed the contact.
He pulled back fairly quickly though and stared at his deformed front claws. "I'm sorry.." he muttered, he felt ashamed embarrssed for showing such emotion even to the female whom he was coming to adore. "I hope you will forgive me..i didn't mean to make you uncomfortable" he whispers his ice green eyes still fxed upon his claws. he was distressed. how could she be dead? A part of him still needed her, the occassions he saw herin the jungle he was always plasedto see her. Now, now though, he would never see her again and she had no final message for him. his heart was heavy thudding forelornely in his chest.

"You have nothing to apologize for, Jani," Umeme murmured softly, desperately wishing there was a way to make things better for her friend. "That little brat, on the other hand.... " another growl escaped before she could rein it in.
As if to apologize for her own behaviour, she pushed the top of her head under his chin and leaned against his chest.
"I'll stay with you as long as you need me to, Jani," she whispered, sensing somehow that this was the onyl ting she could offer that might actually help.

The large green male looked at the slender female and smiled gently. "I, well i suppose it migth seem strange that my mother was a leopard." He paused his brow creasing deeply. "She wasn't my real mother but she might as well have been" he smiled wanely his ice green eyes looking haunted.
"Thankyou" he whsipers after a final pause licking Umeme's cheek in a grooming kiss fashion."I'm confused.I never thought that, that she would die" he squeeks his throat tight as he said it.what could or would he do with this knowlege? She was gone. But perhaps, perhaps theer was soem solice that Umeme was with him now. "I would like that alot" he whispers clearing his throat and nudging the little female gently. He wasn't so alone any more.

"If you would like it, then I will definately be staying, my friend," Umeme smiled and purred slightly.
She roomed his face for a moment before pulling back and watchign him.
"I can't imagine anythgin sadder than losing a mother," she began, hoping she wouldn't make things worse. "I think, in a way, I am just as much an orphan now as you. For all intents and purposes, my mother died when the lightning bolt hit me. But Jani? I think, given the choice, if I had to choose between my memories or being here, I would choose to be here."
She ducked her head and pressed close again. In her own way, she needed the comfort just as much as he must.

"Umeme" He whispered looking distraught. He clambered closer to the dark female wrapping his chin around ehr shooulders and puurring softly. "I'm sorry Umeme I wish i could bring your memories abck" he whispered licking her ears though her words made his heart leap.
"I..I'm very glad I found you Umeme I did not know what it was like to be with another of ones own species. I did not know it would be so rewarding, so wonderful" He tried to find the words but they caught tightly in his throat. Closign his mint coloured gaze he was silent for a long time simply curling closely to the muddy coloured femme "Umeme..would you..would you stay with me forever, stay and be..be my mate?" he stumbled over his words. he had never thought of having a mate a love a life a family perhaps? He had never even considered the possibility. yet as he lay holding tightly to the beautiful femme in his sadness he knew, he realised he needed her there and perhaps she needed him just as much.
Lifting his head he gazed at the dark female had it only been a few days since he had found her injured? it felt like a life time. He desperately wished ehr to stay, wished ehr to be here forever with him. He said no more though, simply looking at the golden eyed femme though his heart beat ever so slowly inhis chest as he awaited her answer.

The little female felt herself blink repeatedly as Jani asked her to be his mate. It was a sudden question, but a sincere one, she thought.
"I... would like that Jani," she began, speakign almost too softly to hear. She purred softly, enjoying the close contact. "I will warn you though, I am likely to be a terrible student when it comes to tree-dancing. And I still might score that brother of yours hide the next time I see him."
Umeme wanted very badly to make Jani feel better and clumsily had chosen the laughter approach. After a moment, she nuzzled her cheek against him.
"Don't worry about my memories. I told her, I'd rather be here without them than anywhere else with them."

Jani smiled, he couldn't help but laugh with her as she spoke of his 'brother' yes the youngster was trouble and he could understand her hatred to him. He wasn't sure entirely if he hated his brother or not he seemed young foolish perhaps time would change that.
His ears flattened against his head and he wrapped his chin around ehr shoulders with a ratehr rough throaty puurr. "There is no hurry for you to become a tree dancer" he chuckled "we have all the time in the world" he licked her ears in an affectionate manner smiling brightly as he lifted his head to look in to her big golden eyes.
"I beelive you have made me the happiest cheetah in the world" he grinned a sincere look in those ice green eyes. He had truely found a soul mate in ummeme and he adored her. Who knew that day in the jungle would bring him something far more beneficial than lunch.

"I'm rather glad there's no hurry, since I still want to rest a bit."
Umeme adopted a rather maternal tone and began fussing over Jani.
"And, after the shock you've just had, I recommend you rest too. We can worry about what's ;eft of the zebra later."

He smiled toothily at Umeme curling his head around her shoulders and resting his chin there happily. "yessum" he whispered playfully lapping at her dark ears. "I think a short nap would do the both of us the world of good" he whispered cleaning her soft ears for a moment before he tenced his mucles and curled in to the dark brown female. He was tired, nothing like this had ever happened to him before. he didn't know what to think. At least he had Umeme here for support though? he was so glad she aggreed to stay with him, to be his mate.
A smile pressed his dark maw until he slowly closed his eyes and with one final quiet puurr he drifted off to sleep nested next to the female he so adored.

Umeme lay quietly, purring softly to help lull Jani into a deeper sleep. As she felt his breathing deepen, the little red-brown female considered thee vents of the day.
He actually wanted her to stay with him, and he'd only know her a few days. Whispering a brief paryer of thanks to the gods who controlled lightning, Umeme allowed herself to sink into slumber beside her mate.
