Welcome to Vale of Earth new Observer.
This thread will walk you through the beginning of your custody
and ownership of specimen you have newly obtained.
The idea for this Walkthrough was inspired by the Newbie Guide at
Feien Fairies.
- Obtaining Your Specimen
By now your Specimen has been delivered to you by PM. If not, and you are supposed to have gotten one, please contact Dr. Amelia ASAP.
Setting Up Your Laboratory
As soon as you are PM'd, generally Dr. Amelia will have issued a guild invite to you if you are not already in the guild. If not, please alert Dr. Amelia to this immediately. Within the delivery PM you will have been provided with the URL to your Laboratory. Please follow the link and begin setting up your Laboratory. Visit the Vale's equipment shop (not open yet). After you are satisfied with it, proceed to the next step.
Basic Rules
As soon as you have been placed forward as eligible to own a Specimen, we will have assumed that you have already read all rules on RolePlay and otherwise. If not, please do so now, also please read the Motivational Document stating the purpose and meaning of this Laboratory. If you have any questions you may ask people in-thread. If you do not receive a satisfactory answer, PM Dr. Amelia.
Tabulating Points
At this point you need to start figuring out how many points you have and what you want to spend it on. You can get abilities for your Specimen once they become a baby, or you can start boosting their stats right now. Refer to the Point System thread here.
Proper Linguistics
If you have made yourself familiar with the rules then you already know the code of RolePlay and conduct we prefer here at the Vale of Earth. However, there are small minor details to know that might come in handy.
We have ranks here at the Laboratories, below you will find a list of proper titles to address people by. Please note that all people who work at the Vale and do NOT have Specimens are just "Employees", or you may address them with their proper Employee rank.
First Ranked Botanists: The only First Rank of Botanists is Dr. Amelia Gaia. You may call her Professor Gaia, or Doctor Gaia (if you ever get the chance to meet her). You may not use her first name when addressing her if you are below the Third Rank of Botanists. She does direct study with The World Tree.
Second Ranked Botanists: The only Second Rank of Botanists is Uennie. You may address her as "Assistant Uennie", as she is the direct subordiante and assistant to Dr. Amelia. She provides instant communication with Dr. Amelia when needed, she is our only way of contact.
Third Ranked Botanists: Kyocho is the Third Rank of Botanists. He is in charge of the reproductive study in the Esperanza Wing. You address them as "Researcher" before their first name.
Fourth Ranked Botanists: This is the level you are at. The appropriate term to call peers of your level is "Observer".
Adjusting To Your Working Environment
There are no such things as cubicles here. Everyone does their work in their designated areas. The following is a basic description of the Vale.
The building which houses the Laboratories is located in DownTown Durem. You may view it on the map as the medium-tall building directly to the right of the large top-left building. The frontal interior of the building has a large and elaborate lobby, covered in artwork serving as a type of gallery that features a local artist every month. The large windows do not look into another floor, the entire lobby is the main height of that building. Parking is underground. A private bullet train is provided for those who work at the Laboratories.
Past the main desk there is one elevator that goes up eighty floors. In the penthouse there is a large restaurant and lounge area for employees of the building only. The entire building is comprised of employees and areas that maintain the BioDome. There is a special area that goes from floor seven to eighteen. The entire area is connected with stairs, there is only a floor at the base of the seventh floor and a ceiling at the top of the eighteenth. All eleven levels have been combined. When you enter at the seventh floor there are staircases and smaller elevators that take you to each individual level inside of that area. This is slightly similar to the popular correctional facility design, with an open area in the middle and cells with platforms which line the sides of each level. However, the "cells" are fully-equipped Laboratories, with windows and clean glass and tile. The middle area has a large decorative indoor garden and fountain. The first floor has social rooms and the Vale's supply stores.
Directly across from the entrance elevator on the other side of the "room", there is another large doorway which leads to a large glass elevator. The part where the back of the building ends is where the BioDome begins. The BioDome stands thirty stories high and houses all habitat environments and several greenhouses. The only way to access it is to use the glass elevator which opens at that one seventh floor and the sub-terrane Boiler Room. The elevator takes you down (or up) to the base floor of the BioDome. Large printed signs indicate which path leads where. The only fauna are insects, fish, and smaller reptiles. Birds are being debated. There are no deadly creatures (to humans) in the Dome. Deadly plants are kept in a seperate greenhouse on the other side. The Dome is exactly four miles in diameter. A small metro circles the entire thing, and stops at every designated area. Areas are divided as such; Rainforest, Desert, Woodland, Mountains, Coastal, Plains, Valley, and Underground.
Acceleration In Growth
You are now ready to enter the Laboratory's society. To increase growth in your Specimen you must fulfill all requirements. Sometimes there will be a special vial of serum lying around which will allow you to grow them with only half the necessary requirements or none at all! Those are very rare though and only given out on occasion. When you have reached the final stage you must still retain activity or you will lose your Specimen.
Interaction With Peers
This is a must. If you refuse to cooperate with other employees that is unacceptable. You may not constantly interact with only one or two other people. Try to keep it consistent and well-rounded. Get to know people, socialize.
Ending Sequence
More will be added as seen fit. For any or all questions please first ask fellow Gaians in-thread and as a last resort alert Dr. Amelia. By accepting this Specimen you have agreed to all rules and unwritten laws of courtesy. Welcome to the Laboratories.
