It's a toss-up. I never really like SB anyways, so I'm okay with Banderas. He does have an inkling of talent and I can understand why it was a possibility. His vocals are a bit more suited to Raoul, but with training he could be a die-hard bass. (Sorry, choir nerd speaking)

I don't think it's his voice that's the problem. He has a nice voice, but his accent is too thick that it smothers his voice and any try of really sounding good. That accent limits his roles.

And the accent makes his voice so much more sexy, don't you think?

He sounded a little too much like Zorro, but he's not that bad of a singer.

Catherine_de_Silver He sounded a little too much like Zorro, but he's not that bad of a singer. Well he's played Zorro, so that's more than likely why.

Oh, I saw that video, with Antonio and Sarah. I actually liked it! I think Antonio has a nice voice, and personally I think his accent kind of gives a peculiar sexiness. I didn't like Sarah's hair straight and black, though... I like it better curly.

PhantomoftheFox Myep. That's why Banderas was performing there. At the time he was the main contender for the role in the movie. But they waited too long, he got caught up in the Zorro sequel, and Schumacher apparently decided on a younger cast. AIAOY... oh, wait, that wasn't Banderas. That was Michael Ball. xd He's usually better than that. Banderas did alright with his Evita songs, though. And the song from the now-dead Phantom sequel is pretty cool. Wow. I was dragged out see Zorro, and thought it should die. Now I'm kinda grateful that he was in it. Means he didn't play Erik. -shudder- Wait... Phantom sequel? When did this happen? eek

It didn't, thank god.
That was the big drama before the movie was made... Webber got the idea into his head to write a musical sequel to Phantom based on Phantom of Manhatten. In fact, that's the whole reason PoM was written. So, yeah... There was almost a musical version of Phantom of Manhatten that would have included that wangsty song Kiri te Kanawa sings at the end of this event. Truly you must count yourselves lucky there was such a massive outcry of indignation from the phans who came before you that Webber trashed the idea. (The horrible reviews PoM got probably didn't hurt either.)

PhantomoftheFox Mmmnope, it was Michael Ball. Same guy who did the Joseph songs. As far as I know, Michael Crawford has never sung AIAOY with Sarah Brightman. He sings it with Dale Kristien on his In Concert album, and she's sung it with a bunch of other guys, but never the two of them together. Again, as far as I know. I don't think Michael was even at ALW's 50th Birthday party. And the Phantom sequel... yeeeeah... In the mid 90's ALW was planning to write a musical sequel to Phantom loosely based on the Frederick Forsythe novel Phantom of Manhatten. He wrote a few songs for it, namely the one performed at the Royal Albert Hall; The Heart is Slow to Learn. I guess it's supposed to be the Phantom pining for Christine or vice versa or something. Pretty song, but a baaaad idea... I completely agree with you on that one. Phantom sequel is a bad idea. Espeically with any musical, a sequel just does not work.

In my opinion Antonio Banderas is an mazing actor and a pretty good singer. Maybe Im biased because I think hes the sexiest man on the planet(seriosuly). I was surprised years ago when I heard him as Che Guevara in Evita, I didnt know he sang. He did quite a good job there. His voice is pretty good, but as much as i love him I must say he is not phantom worthy. His vice desnt go with Eriks character at all. He did a good job at the performance, but hes just not why i envisioned as the phantoim. Sarha was brilliant, as usual

I thought it was Michael Crawford singing AIAOY with Sarah! why would micahel crawford ever sing AIAOY? He plays erik after all. It would be too weird seeing the man who is originally hte phantom for me (and pretty much everyone) sing as taoul.. im not one that holds deep hatred for raoul but i prefer erik an infinite number of times so this would be almost like an insult to me sweatdrop

Oh, I love this video. Antonio Banderas' high heels are so funny. And Sarah certainly looks...different here. sweatdrop I like Banderas' singing, though it would not be a good fit for the musical. I think he'd be awesome in the movie though. You know, in a more-Gerik-than-Gerik kinda way. Phantastic Phanatic why would micahel crawford ever sing AIAOY? He plays erik after all. It would be too weird seeing the man who is originally hte phantom for me (and pretty much everyone) sing as taoul.. im not one that holds deep hatred for raoul but i prefer erik an infinite number of times so this would be almost like an insult to me sweatdrop Eh, I have a record of Michael singing AIAOY with Barbara Bonney. It's okaaay, but I much prefer Steve Barton. On that note, I've also heard Steve singing MOTN and much prefer Michael. ~-(A Rose of May)~- Oh, I saw that video, with Antonio and Sarah. I actually liked it! I think Antonio has a nice voice, and personally I think his accent kind of gives a peculiar sexiness. I didn't like Sarah's hair straight and black, though... I like it better curly. I love Sarah's curly hair. I was a little "WTF?" when I saw it was blond and straight on the cover of her new album.
