Laharl Part Dux I think the major difference between the two at least as far as I see, is the maturity difference, most band kids act like monkeys while chior kids behave like civilized people. But this is just from what I see in my school. And Orchestra kids((I know cause I'm in Orchestra too)) are simillar to choir kids except they tend to be a bit on the snobby side. Sorry if I offend anyone but this is usually the trends I see form within the music department. AHH. COLD KEYBOARD.
But I'm going to have to disagree with the first statement. In my school, My band is well behaved, seeing as how it consists of mostly upper classmen. My chorus is the worst chorus I've ever been in.
We had to sign a contract for my director saying that we knew and understood the classroom rules, and now whenever we so much as sneeze without permission, we get written up. It's crap.

My band friends are usually quiet and calm. But my choir and orchestra friends are always bouncing off of the walls and being random. ^.^;;;

Band kids tend to be narrow minded, whereas choir kids, for the most part, are more accepting of others. In my schools, past and current, there seems to be a rivalry between band and choir kids. Band kids think that they are better than choir kids. We, on the other hand, treat them as equals instead of lesser human beings.

At my school there really isn't a huge differnce. we're all really dedicated and our programs intertwine alot. The band is more recognised by the school but we don't really hold it against them.

At my school is seems like a lot of what the choir kids talk about is music, choir, or muicals/musical movies. Band kids don't really talk about band that much in my school. We have kids in pritty much everything, even JROTC, a millitary training program thing. Band people are mostly just in band, maybe art & TAG or Pre-Ap or AP. Some choir kids are in TAG or pre-AP or Ap but not as many.

I'm in both. I noticed that the band kids really do tend to act their age. Most are pretty friendly, and accepting of all sorts of people from cliques all over the school, since my band is everything from chess club members to football players to drama geeks to druggies to the 'popular' crowd. We get people from all over the place.
However, the choir at my school is all girls, and a lot of them are quite catty, to say the least. You make one comment to them, and the bitching never ends. Also, some are quite stuck up and cocky. I remember on the bus on a trip, there was this girl, and she sat with her headphones on while everyone else was trying to sleep, singing. It was like she was taking advantage of the silence so people would hear her. I mean, sure I admire her commitment to singing, but it was like she wanted people to go, "OMG Becky, you have such a beautiful voice!" , which I think was really stuck up of her, especially first thing in the morning.

ALL my friends are in band! So from first hand experience, I can tell you, yes, band kids get more action than chorus kids. Yes, outwardly, they are crazier than us. But behind closed doors, those Chorus nerds can be FREAKS. lol. But you know what, band kids tend to be less snobish than us Chorus kids. Whatever. All i know is that we both read music (though, hey, their band kids..they have the one up on us there) and we both use an instrument to give the precious gift of music. So in that aspect, we are exactly alike. wink

I have to say that the band nerds at my school are a rather random group. They're more like a cult, I guess. They are all very crazy people and almost all their stories start "This one time at band camp..." or "This one time at practice...". The choir members are more like a disfunctional family where I'm at. We have all sorts of people like band, but each different choir has a different sort of personality. Depending on the choir depends on what behavoir you get. In band they're all crazy people.

I would definetly say band kids in my school are more friendly and accepting... The choir kids act like everyone is below them...

I've noticed a few things. As far as being out of the choir enviorment it seems like choir members are a lot more reserved where was band students tend to be really outspoken (almost obnoxiously so sometimes), also it seems to me like the choir is a lot more of an excepting tight group. When I got big into choir I got pretty tight with a alot of people that really are nowhere near my clique otherwise. It's like, I probably wouldn't talk to these people at all if not for choir, but because of choir I'm pretty good friends with them.

I am both a choir nerd and a band nerd, even though I hold more true bonds to my choir, and I notice that I do act differently around each group....
Our Band People- Very active ( thank you Epidemic of Insanity); less behaved; more serious about thier stuff as a group; more like a family
Our Choir people- layed back; very individualistic, and soloistic ( we always come back with more ones than the band in solo/ensemble, and are leaders in solo/ensemble in our area) we also tend to be less devout to choir, whereas the band people are very devout to what they do....

The thing that really makes me mad about some band people at my school think that choir has really nothing to do with music and all we do is just "sing". rolleyes

Ukita_Shiro Band kids tend to be narrow minded, whereas choir kids, for the most part, are more accepting of others. In my schools, past and current, there seems to be a rivalry between band and choir kids. Band kids think that they are better than choir kids. We, on the other hand, treat them as equals instead of lesser human beings. I actually take great offense to that. Everyone I know in band (and that's NOT just from my school) are VERY open-minded people. I, myself, have been in band way longer than choir (and I have to admit) I enjoy it ALOT more than choir at this point in time, because the people in choir are stuck-up snobs who make me feel like crap every time I go into that room. All I want to do is sing, and they have to make oh-so-kind refferences to the fact that I am neither skinny, nor popular, nor pretty.
In band class, I'm in the percussion section, and all the percussionists are awesome. They're my friends... we joke around, work AWESOMELY together, and if we're not playing our instruments as well as we could be, we help eachother out.
In choir, if I'm sick (which, at this moment, I am) and I still try (which means I have a slightly heavier voice) the girls give me nasty looks and comments, and tell me to "just quit choir".
And as for the competition thing... the choir thinks they're all that compared to the band. They figure the band just presses buttons or hits things, and beautiful music comes out. They make fun of the choir kids that are in band. The band, however, for the most part, takes an actual interest in the choir, and is usually there to watch the festivals and performances, or to support their choir friends.
So... yeah. Perhaps change it to "some band people".
