"There's no room for wilting flowers here."

It starts with the unexpected loss of something dear...
The warmth that comforted and cradled just disappears.
And in its place there's nothing - just an endless empty hole.
The path to isolation is littered with the dreams that lay destroyed.

So what's the problem, what's keeping me. From moving forward, it's hard to see.
I should be free now... I should be fine. But the life I fought for still isn't mine.

Maverly controlled her knight, forcing it to make unrelenting attacks against Ivan. Her anger had clouded some of her better judgement, making the attacks strong but not precise. Without realising, Ivan let out another trick with his blue smoke that dispersed across the ground, warping it. The environment around him no longer made sense as it wobbled and distorted. Maverly picked herself up to try and get a better view but as she did so she saw one of Ivan's toxic bullets strike the pillar behind her. She looked up, noting how it began to crumble and decay above her. She had to break her concentration on her knight to get out of the way. As the pillar crashed she heard nothing, realising then that it was another illusion. She looked back at her summon and saw that Ivan was about to destroy it with a blow to the helmet. "Hm" she took a step forwards and shooting out a glowing sunset missile. It struck Ivan in the back and caused him to fall. Maverly then made some gestures with her crop, before bringing it up high, ready to cast her judgement. The knight mimicked her motions and brought up its colossal golden blade, ready to make the final blow. She gave the order, lowering her crop.

"Pum-pumpkin aura" a low feminine voice called out from being Maverly. She watched as her summon's sword came down to strike but was rebound backwards. The knight's blow was deflected and caused it to loose footing. "Luna messis" the same voice bellowed out calm and low. An orange glow flashed around Ivan before it caused Maverly's knight to shatter and dissolve in a few moments. Maverly was forced back into her senses as she remembered she was teaching a lesson. She lowered her riding crop as she turned to face the students her were all equally as surprised to find Lumina La Estrella and Solomon Hope standing in the back archway. Solomon stood there as he often did, hot mug of coco in hand. Lumina was beside her, arm extended with a nonchalant expression on her face. "You have intervened an organised duel, Professor Estrella" Maverly looked irritated but slightly more composed than earlier. Lumina began to descend the steps, leaving Solomon behind as she calmly said "no battle is truly organised, Miss Asche. Expect the unexpected." She ended with a sweet smile that Maverly couldn't quite tell was genuine. Maverly looked back over her shoulder to glance back at Ivan. She sensed his soul's energy was low. Her blow may have caused more damage that she intended. "You're correct" Maverly agreed, nodding towards Lumina, "one must not presume safety - or fall to clouded vision in the heat of battle..."
"Quite the show" Solomon added, now descending some of the steps also to join the students. He stood out among them, quite tall and proper. They all looked up to him from there seats as he swirled the liquid in his mug. "I do hope that you all learn from this demonstration. We heard the explosions from my tower." His tone was quite chipper, as if this was quite exciting. Maverly meanwhile had moved over to Ivan and offered him a hand up. She then nodded to him. "I will accept this as a stalemate. I may have been able to deliver the final blow - but my mind appears to be not as well defended as I hoped." She allowed Ivan to gather himself before she shot him a glare and added "you'd do well not to mess with my thoughts again." And before he could respond she turned on her heel to continue the class.

Once the students had all finished sparring and learning some new techniques, Maverly was quick to leave and eventually find Lumina and Ivan in Lumina's empty classroom. There was a heated debate. "How dare you meddle with the image of my brother" Maverly had began, pointing her finger at him from across a table. Lumina meanwhile was rolling her eyes and leaning back against a wall behind her desk as the two exchanged words. "You have quite the nerve, hiding in the darkness and plucking up memories like that"
"Wait - you used that Lumina added softly, slightly surprised, but still not taking a side. This was an argument that Maverly started, but Lumina knew Ivan could defend himself quite easily - and she also knew this argument wouldn't lead to anything permanent. It was almost like watching students argue. She also didn't have the energy to add fuel to the fire - the fire being Maverly in this situation. Of course, Maverly had no idea that Ivan didn't control what she saw, nor could he see it either. "Oh, so that's a trick he uses often?! How uncouth!"

Time for you to learn, it's my turn.
I won't be held down any longer.
I've waited all my life and finally it's here.

Rise and take flight, darling - let's soar high.
For the first time in forever I'm alive, don't you forget that.
Cruel and wicked life, how it hurts me deep inside.
Cold and vicious life, how I wish to make it right.

Ivan Baron

Ivan saw the sword lift high up and prepared for a world of hurt when a soothingly familiar feminine voice erupted from the stands above. The blade above rebounded before another spell was enacted to completely shatter the figure. Lumina, as always, protected him valiantly, meanwhile, Solomon, as always, stood back entertained by Ivan's possible demise. Maverly lowered her riding crop and addressed Lumina composed, but also irritated from the disruption. She accused of interrupted an organized duel, but from where Ivan was laying it felt more like a divine lashing. Lumina dismissed her formally so there was no room for argument causing Maverly to reflex on her statement earlier. Still, the feistiness in her couldn't be contained and she of course had to end with the last word. Solomon on the hand, was enraptured by the show and had to see the battle for himself when the explosions were heard from the tower. He hoped the students would take this lesson into consideration for the next battles to which Tsuna quietly agreed. She had learned a lot more than she should have about Ivan and would be having a lengthy discussion with him tonight. Ivan lounged on the floor until Maverly offered him a hand up. He wanted to thank and congratulate her on her win, but instead she conceded knowing her judgement had been affected. He tried to assure her otherwise, but her glare and angry commentary made him seal his lips.

Ivan took shelter in Lumina's empty classroom when Maverly stormed in accusing him of defiling her brother's image. Lumina leaned back in her chair watching the heated debate commence as Ivan tilled his head innocently at Maverly. Clearly, she didn't appreciate his trick on stage and he expected this reaction from her. Lumina was intrigued that he used such a vile method in a friendly spar, but wasn't surprised and let the argument continue. Now Maverly assumed he did this often probably fueling her further distrust in him, but he let her finish anyway. "Do you feel better now?" He asked honestly letting her burn off all the steam she had pent up inside. Before she could interrupt, he put out his hand and proceed calmly. "Listen, the stunt I pulled is meant to strength the mind so you can resist future temptations. I know it doesn't seem like it, but it was within yours and the students best interest. I also couldn't control what you saw, its all within your mind. All I can do is merely influence until you either submitted or broke free. It's the work of a villain, I know, but you overcame it as I expected you too." He walked over to her placing a firm, congratulatory hand on her shoulder. "Good job!" To her he probably looked and sounded inconsiderate, and was definitely expecting a kick to the groin.

"Better?" Maverly scoffed, but Ivan pushed out his hand in an attempt to stop her from responding. He then went on to explain himself in some detail, an excuse Maverly wasn't quite sure she could believe. Once he finished, Maverly was silent, mouth slightly open as she stared him down incredulously. He then moved over to her and pat her on the shoulder, giving her a compliment like some animal who did a trick for its master. "You insolent man!" Maverly rebuked. She felt the anger within her rush up to her skull as she tightened her fists and with one hand firmly pushed his aside as she took a step back. But as she attempted to think of words to say, they did not come to her. Instead there was a a barely noticeable glimmer of water in her eyes. She was breathing heavily at this point, still containing her rage before she attempted to swallow it down. She could still remember the sounds of the statues around her, calling out all of her worries and fears. She felt the unbearable weight of her family name on her shoulders. Each word pushing her down lower and lower into the ground that attempted to swallow her up. A distant memory of her brother in his sick bed was now brought to the surface and she couldn't shake it. "I hate that I cannot blame you entirely for what I saw" she finally said through gritted teeth. She blinked, getting rid of the building water in her eyes as she took another breath and stiffened herself into perfectly straight posture. "If you ever use that trick against me again, someone else will not be able to save you" Maverly warned.
"Right here" Lumina added, giving a smile and a tilt of her head, letting her raven black hair fall over one shoulder to reveal a sleeping Lil P' on the other. "I'm still undecided on how your intervention weighs up in an organised duel. How could you want to save this man?!"
"There's some love for that man, can't let some bad outweigh all of the good" Lumina softly replied, glancing at Ivan over Maverly's shoulder. Maverly's eye twitched for a moment before she let out a sigh and put a hand to her forehead. "How did I end up in this situation, honestly. "Perhaps we could make up over a little duel in the future, Maverly" Lumina smiled, "I'm certain Lil P' would love to show you what he's got... and at least the match will be fair" she gave a wink to Ivan. "I came here to research and teach students as part of the agreement - not waste time having pretend matches with other adults who should have boundaries" she glared back at Ivan again. "I need a walk" Maverly shook her head and decided she had no more time to waste on this man, nor the mysterious Lumina who she just couldn't read. With that, she left the room and strutted off down one of the corridors.

"Well" Lumina began, walking around her desk to lean back on the other side, facing Ivan. "That went quite well I thought. The Queen of Thorns is warming up to you" Lumina smiled and almost chuckled at the nickname. "That was some bravery, however. You had no idea what she would see... and it sounds like you brought up some family issues she's still facing."

Ivan Baron

Maverly aggressive pushed his hand aside after her concerning outburst making him realize that he may have pushed her to far. She stood there fist tightened with searing rage about to erupt from her like a volcano. Ivan noticed the glimmer of built up tears ready to spill over on her waterline before she blinked them away. By her stiffened stance and lack of eye movement, she was mulling over something. Maybe he was thinking of a legitimate comeback to say to him, or she could be over analyzing what he explained to her. Perhaps, if she told him exactly what she saw he could coach her though the painful imagery. It will help her cope with all that has happened to her and she could vent her frustration in a healthy manner. Instead, she remained spiteful and warned him that next time someone won't be coming to his aid. Lumina intervened once again, the till of her head with her raven hair cascading down her shoulder drove him crazy. Of course, it was no surprise seeing Lil' P fast asleep on her shoulder like a perched bird. Marverly couldn't understand Lumina's reasoning, but she voiced it clearly causing him to blush uncontrollably. She did try to tame the fire by offering another duel, but Maverly wouldn't accept anymore nonsense before storming off.

Lumina walked over to her desk and leaned against it teasing Ivan lightly about Maverly's view of him. Still, she brought up a valid point and he knew he had to go after Maverly to make things right. He walked over to Lumina and leaned in close smirking devilishly. "As much as I want to break code of conduct with you, I have to maintain upstanding morale for our peers. You understand." He couldn't resist sneaking in a passionate kiss before waving Lumina goodbye for now until he gets home later. Luckily, Maverly didn't make it far and he was able to catch up to her easily. "Look, you can't stay mad at me forever. We have a job to do tonight, remember?" He rounded to the front of her to stop her in her tracks. "Maverly, I can't help you if you don't talk to me. I'm not a professional councilor, but I'm a good listener." He looked at her genuinely hoping she'd give him another chance.

At Ivan's comment Lumina let out a small smirk, she then reciprocated a small kiss with Ivan before saying "your endeavours are highly appreciated" with a chuckle. She watched as he made his way from her classroom and out into the corridors in an attempt to find Maverly before she was lost forever.

The half-elf was storming down the corridor, the wedge heels on the base of her boots giving her away no doubt. The low thuds could be heard echoing a few rooms down. She was thinking about the mission she had to endure with that man tonight when she heard steps approach... and Ivan's voice. She was forced to come to a stop as he reminded her they have to work together later. She let out a sigh and before she could chastise him he went on to try and say she could speak to him. A chill went up her spine, one that made her eyes widen and shoulders stiffen. "No, you're not a professional councillor" she said, tightening her jaw. "And that is exactly why I won't be letting you listen to my problems. They are mine. And Just because you've caused some trauma to resurface, it does not mean I'm about to pour out my life story to you. This is my life, my trauma, and I've already dealt with it. I do not need to dig it back up just to make you feel better about upsetting me. Mention my life even once whilst we're on Solomon's mission, then consider yourself blacklisted from any Asche produce." She then leaned in closer and said "I promise, our products are everywhere. You'll starve. Now if you'll excuse me. I have to find the library"

Ivan Baron

Maverly blatantly refused his offer insisting on bottling up her emotions and even threatened him mercilessly. Sighing hopelessly, he watched as he tried to find the library which was a task he could help her with instead. "Directions at your service! Down the hall and make a sharp turn to the far left!" He smiled proudly as he followed her to the location. The library was not a particular place he was fond of, not that he didn't want to learn, it was more of the stale atmosphere. Besides, the library wasn't to keen on seeing him since she stuck her nose up at his enthusiastic wave to her. 'You smoke in a library once and they treat you like a hooligan', Ivan thought to himself as he turned to Maverly curious of her search. "So what exactly are you hoping to find here?" He asked nonchalantly shuffling behind her.

Maverly let out an exasperated sigh as Ivan annoyingly caught on that she couldn't find the way to the academy's library. She was intent on finding it as quickly as possible so she could set up her own cosy hub. Defeated, Maverly quietly thanked him and began to strut in the directions he gave her. She couldn't help but notice that Ivan was behind her the whole time, causing her to grit her teeth and tense her shoulders as she pushed forward on this arduous journey. She was so focused on getting to the library that for a few minutes she had actually forgotten Ivan was following her. By the time she got to it, she was suddenly at ease as she looked around at rows and rows of bookshelves and tables. Each table was decorated with an emerald lamp emitting clean white light. There was another level above, and it's balcony looked down over them with even more bookshelves and a few areas that stretched out. The ground level also had a couple of walls that seemed to extend outwards and had a few steps leading down to reading areas complete with cushioned sofas and tall windows. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling, emitting a clean light when the sun didn't shine down through the glass roof. The furnishings were quite modern, bringing a breath of fresh air into the academy's castle which was otherwise centuries old. It appeared Solomon was keen on keeping the academy on par with modern society. The walls were painted black and green, with golden accents, in-keeping with Solomon's aesthetic apparently. The roof, where there wasn't glass, was painting off-white, a nice detail to enhance the height of the room. Hanging from the tallest section of the roof was a bespoke clock. Large, round like a ball, and made from ornate metal. It silently ticked... or not - in its own unique way.

Maverly spun round and crossed eyes with Ivan once more, reminded that he was still here. She then noticed how the librarian gave him a bad look, to which his explanation didn't go sit well with Maverly either. "With good reason" she rolled her eyes and ran a finger across a table, her eyes locking on a few students reading nearby. I shouldn't enchant this entire library... unfortunately" she thought. Ivan then insisted on interrupting her thoughts again with yet another question. "Solitude" Maverly muttered, giving him a look out of the corner of her eye, "and preparation for tonight". She gracefully made her way like a ghost across the room, eyes looking up to the signage as she did so. She may never have been here before, but she acted with such confidence you would believe she's been here a hundred times. She knew how libraries work... she spent most of her time in them. She first moved to geography, running her finger across several booked before pulling one out named "History of Veridium", then another a few shelves down called "The Ruins of Duobus". She sighed at the second book, noting recent events in Otherearth. "Perhaps a little out of date now" she said to herself, looking at Ivan as she passed him to move to another corner of the library. "Your persistence is respectable, most would shrivel under the unimaginable weight of my silence by now. Now... I must apologise". Maverly moved with her books towards a door she had seen earlier, it was a private reading room complete with fireplace, window, desk and rug. Even a large plumb sofa in another corner should one want to lay down with their reading material. As she moved in she placed her books down on the desk and looked over the room. "How many doors do you think are in this academy?" she asked Ivan through the doorway, genuinely interested. She allowed him to give her some kind of guess as she nodded and looked over the room curiously. "Thank you" she then said, waving her fingers across the door as it's edges began to glow a shade of sunset, "that was a great help. Can I ask one favour of you? When I close this door, it's going to glow and after a moment look completely normal. Could you give it a try and make sure it opens again?" She let Ivan agree as she gave him a humble smile, closing the door with one hand. It clicked shut, and as she promised it glowed orange for a moment. Trails of magic could be seen licking the walls around it, vanishing as they crawled farther away towards unknown locations.

Maverly watched from her side of the door, letting out a sigh and rolling her eyes as she turned around, confident in her magic. She placed a concealment spell on the door, it was her unique talent, one she had worked on for years as a kid to allow herself private time in her father's estate. The moment Ivan, or anyone for that matter, would try to open the door it would lead to another random door in the academy. Probably a janitor's closet or something. She would have to learn the academy better to plan better, but for now she trusted something random would suffice and stop him from finding her for the time being. He would have to check every other door in the academy if he really wanted to find the one that led to her.

With that in mind... she began her research in solitude.

Time for you to learn, it's my turn.
I won't be held down any longer.
I've waited all my life and finally it's here.

Ivan Baron

Maverly seemed entranced by the library's majesty. As if the bottom level wasn't ornate enough with rows of books, desks with embellished emeralds lamps, and tall windows shining down on overly plush seated areas, the top floor was just as spectacular. Winding stairs lead up to the next level housing more books, dazzling chandeliers, and a large metal clock hung at the highest point. The walls as well as the decor and furnishings were all of Solomon's signature colors and style. No expense was spared and it was obvious that he secretly loved to show off. Ivan couldn't deny that he was impressed the first time Solomon took him around the academy. As a former assassin, Ivan absorbed every little detail he could which he stored for later usage. Most jobs required him learn easy infiltration as well as escape so he was surprised that Solomon trusted him so quickly. The library and his office were his greatest feats on these grounds, or at least he acted like they were, and Ivan admired him for it. He was thinking about some of the first encounters he had with Solomon when Maverly finally answered his question. He looked at her pretending to be surprised, "Solitude? From what?" He played dumb, but knew she was referring to him.

She added on that she was searching for information for tonight's journey and this time he acted astonished. "Quiet astute of you, Maverly. But why not be surprised instead. Your first time there shouldn't be spoiled!" He followed her curiously, but it looked like she already knew where to go without his "help". She began skimming the geography section before stumbling upon the "History of Veridium", and leading one shelf down was a book titled "The Ruins of Dubobus". She wondered past him to another shelf taking the stack of books she had already gathered. She, for some reason, commended for his pestering persistence and apologized which left him speechless. Once she found all the knowledge she needed, she made herself comfortable in a cozy corner with a fireplace and an even blusher couch. He was about to sit down with her when she ambushed him with a strange question. She waited patiently for his answer and he decided to assume her. Again, having toured the entire grounds with Solomon and had lived here for some time, he actually knew an accurate estimation. "I'd say about...3000" She knew nothing of his assassin past so where ever she was going with this he felt like he could outsmart her. After he divulged his thoughts, she thanked him and walked over to a door not far from them enchanting it. The frame glowed a radiant sunset and she asked him to do her the favor of trying to reopen the door from the other side. Shrugging, he entered the room and followed her instructions, but as expected it didn't open.

Sighing he turned around to find himself in an abandoned classroom used for storage. There was another door leading out of the classroom and when he got that one open he found himself in the garden shed instead of a hallway. When he reopened the shed door he found himself in one of the campus restrooms, lucky it was a man's one seeing the urinals. He breathed a sigh of relief and smirked. "Okay, I see how your little spell works. You should have never congratulated me on my persistence, Maverly." He laughed scaring someone in a stall near him as he towards the door leading out. From there, he tried several doors leading to different locations all across the school. He just needed to find the right location in order to get out of this trap and fortunately for him one of the doors lead him close enough to home where Lumina was waiting! "OH MY DARLING, SWEET, BAT, PUMPKIN, ANGEL!!! I'M HOME!" He called from across one of the halls in the teacher's apartment complex. He had ended up in a corridor close to his apartment and knew Lumina would hear his mushy declaration. He didn't care if the other teachers didn't care for their childish antics, he refused to hide his love for her.

`•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´ Luмїηą Lα Esтяєℓℓα `•.¸¸.••´´¯``•• .¸¸.•´

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, "I'll never let you go"
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone"
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Lumina had just stopped by her shared apartment within the castle when Ivan's voice suddenly blasted from outside her apartment. He sounded almost out of breath and full of adoration for his partner. "Yes... you are?" she asked him, popping her head around the door to their home. This was part of a tower dedicated to the school tutors. Hers and Ivan's was larger, as they were now a couple, and there was even an extra room for Tsuna to use should she not want to stay in the dorms on the weekends. Lil P' then pushed out from her black hair and said "its almost like he didn't see you just twenty minutes ago"
"Oh shush, how would you know, you were asleep"
"Was not" Lil P' rebuked, but Lumina took no notice of it. Lumina then leaned against the door as Ivan came into view and she instantly recognised the essence of magic surrounding him. "Ivan" he took in a breath, almost surprised. "What's all this residual magic? Have you been trying to cast arcane magic again?". She allowed him to then explain the situation with Maverly and how he eventually found himself here. Lil P' couldn't help but laugh loudly at the man as Lumina brought him inside, leaning back on the kitchen worktop as she explained what she knew. "An illusion spell - quite the unique and complex spell at that. I imagine what you just went through was simply the results of her not understanding the castle properly." She let out a sigh, "I should probably check for any lost students, any number of doors may have been temporarily switched whilst the spell settled. However, the good news. I can sense that her enchantment has fixed itself - in fact I can't sense it at all. I would bet that all the doors in the academy are back to normal - except for two. The door to her private reading room - which will probably open to a different place every time you open it. And then the true door to her private reading room, which could be any door in the entire castle. I probably wouldn't waste your time trying to best her - you it sounds like she hates you already and you're meant to be working together at Duobus tonight" Lumina gave Ivan a stern yet playful look.

Fairy blue, the reason I'm alive
The reason I can breathe, it's all because of you
And I'll pull through
If you reach for me and call my name

I will find you my dear
Wherever you may be
Here and now I swear to break your curse
And I will set you free

Ivan Baron

Ivan crossed his arms as Lil P' commented on his neediness making him look rather pathetic. Lumina assumed he was asleep and even Ivan was convinced, but apparently he had been eavesdropping. Lumina leaned against their door surprised that he was dripping in magical residue forcing him to explain his plight. "You know I won't attempt arcane magic again. Maverly kicked me to the curb with some magic door spell. Each door I open it leads to some random room in the castle. I was lucky to have ended up here and found you before something really catastrophic happened. Lil P' laughed at him which he didn't find assuming as Lumina let him into the apartment explaining the complexity of the spell. She even noted that she may have to go searching for lost students in case they got caught in the spell. Luckily, the good news was that her enchantment has worn off and all doors are back to normal except for two. One is a fake out door to her private study and the other the real one, but the chances of locating it were hopeless. Lumina found Maverly's distain towards him amusing, but it just made him groan. "How am I going to make tonight work if she won't even look at me." He leaned onto Lumina snuggling his face into her shoulder. "At least you still like me." He why sarcastically hearing Lil P' snicker.

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, "I'll never let you go"
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone"
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Ivan snuggled into Lumina's spare shoulder effortlessly. She was like a cushion, comfortable and warm. She smelled of pumpkin spice and... a delicate hint of lily. She moved her head to nestle in on top of his own as she stroked the back of his head. Lil' P seemed to pay no attention, staying quite on Lumina's other shoulder, half hidden by her hair. He was an extension of Lumina's soul, and with it came a connection that only the two of them could understand. There was silent communication with them at times, no conversations being had but feelings being conveyed without even a thought in their subconscious. He understood now was not the time to interject. "Perhaps just don't look at her either, darling." Lumina smiled at his comment about her still liking him, and there was even a quiet snicker from Lil P' but she paid it no attention. "Always" she said, smiling more. She then patted his back lightly meaning for him to step back as she offered some more advice. "You should start preparing. Meanwhile, I have a history class to teach to the first years. Just relax and be yourself, Ivan. Maverly will have to warm up to you eventually. Remember that she has a completely different way of life, a different upbringing... and maybe don't mention her family? From what I understand, she became heiress of their estate after her older brother died. After that, she was held high and proud until her younger brother came of age to become the new heir. To have so much weight on your shoulders to then have it all taken away. I actually wonder if she was happy to lose that title or not." Lumina placed a finger on her lips in deep thought. A lot of people in North Occulas had heard about the Asche Agricultural Estate, and new of Maverly during her time as Heiress, but she quickly vanished when her younger brother took over those responsibilities. Her father was famous for starting the company, and is known to be quite the entrepreneur, and was surprisingly charitable, especially after the darkness of Lucifial when many crops had died in the northern realms.

After a few more minutes with Ivan, Lumina took her leave from their apartment to find her class, quickly remembering she'd have to double check there were no lost students thanks to Maverly's spell.

Fairy blue, the reason I'm alive
The reason I can breathe, it's all because of you
And I'll pull through
If you reach for me and call my name

I will find you my dear
Wherever you may be
Here and now I swear to break your curse
And I will set you free
