Kittarra's eyes lit up when she saw the beautiful adult kitsune walk in and greet first her mom and then her. "Another kitsune! I thought I was the only one left in the entire world!" she thought to herself. Kittarra allowed Miss Saito to remove her boots and coat and then took her hand but was still reluctantly tense. She refused to speak but shook her head indicating she had not eaten breakfast as her mom was quite quick to want to bring her here. She also wondered fearfully just what her mom was putting in the log book and what had already been said ahead of time. No matter what, she had resolved to not look at this as a reward but as a punishment, and she was prepared to do anything to escape it.

((OOC: btw, if there's anything you want Kittarra's Mom to have told Akemi, please let me know in OOC or a PM or something cat_3nodding Like, stuff you want me to do, specific punishments etc.)) She noticed that Kittarra’s expression brightened when she greeted her, though it was momentary, as the little girl didn’t seem to like being here. Akemi hoped she could change that. Still, it might be a challenge, with what her Mom had told her! The golden fox would brace herself for whatever comes. Technically, Akemi wasn’t from this world either but she had carved out a new life for herself in Gaia over the past 25 years and grown to love it. She had seen other kitsune around. They were fairly popular, along with many other races. But not many ‘nine tails'. Those were rare. She wondered how Kittarra had gained hers, knowing that usually a tail was earned each 100 years, increasing the fox’s power. If that were true, she knew that, although Akemi's own memory was gone, she must have lived for at least a thousand years already. But a little girl? Akemi had no idea. She, of course, didn’t know that all the children who came to this daycare were regressed by some hidden enemy, usually taken from other worlds. Sometimes their memories were wiped but other times, they were not. Kittarra’s story was a little different than most of the other kids who’d turn up. She’d been through several foster families already and her Mom had been very clear about adjusting her behaviour. Akemi felt sorry for the girl, having been changed hands so many times. She didn’t want her current mom and baby brother to get rid of her too. So she would do her very best to try to remedy things! Miss Saito was pleasantly surprised when Kittarra didn’t put up any kind of fuss about having her shoes and coat removed by a stranger and was happy when the girl even took her hand. The Mom had disappeared almost the second she’d bid the woman farewell. So now it was just the two of them, in a brand new, empty daycare. As she led Kittarra along, she saw her shake her head to the question. Akemi used her ID card to swipe the double doors into the daycare proper, pushing them open and leading the child inside. Colourful jigsaw foam mats were spongy beneath their feet. Miss Saito led Kittarra towards the right, past a giant pile of plushies and into the dining and kitchen area. She paused her steps and leaned down slightly to ask her a question. “Where do you want to sit, Sweetie? You take a seat and I’ll make you something yummy to eat. What do you like to eat and drink, Kittarra? You can have cereal, fruit, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, omelettes, bacon and eggs…” she listed off ideas, “We also have milk, water and juice” she said with her tails softly wagging.

Kittarra saw the questioning look on the other ones face and somehow knew it had something to do with her own tails and having nine already at such a young age. Yes, it was true that normally she would be so much older judging from that, but as a baby, she mimicked what she saw on her real birth parents without even knowing it. This scared her family into thinking she was the cursed one from the tribe's sacred scrolls. This is why they were forced to give her away in the first place. Try as she might, she couldn't get them to go away so she could hopefully return to her own family. She had been through so much because of those tails and given away just because of the fear surrounding them that she gave up ever trying to rid herself of them and began acting out to every other family she was placed in. That's when the orphanage sent her to this world with a warning that if she lost the family here, she would be permanently locked away and would be kept as a baby until she died. Coming here must mean that she had failed and now she would be sent back to her world and be sealed to that fate if she couldn't prevent the regression that happened at all other daycare centers. Fear only briefly crossed her mind, and she tried to hide it. That went away when she was asked where she would like to sit and what would she like to eat. "I would very much love pancakes please, and I will sit here on the floor," she responded politely.

While she was delighted at how politely Kittarra had requested pancakes, Akemi’s ears doubtfully swivelled back halfway at the idea of her sitting on the floor to eat. “Okay, you can have pancakes. But you can’t sit on the floor to eat them,” she told the girl reasonably, “That isn’t proper. You need to either sit at one of the toddler tables or I will find a highchair to put you in” she explained. She folded her arms, watching Kittarra to see if she would sit on her own or would have to be made to. If she wouldn’t sit, she couldn’t have her pancakes. And Akemi wanted her to eat, knowing she hadn’t had breakfast. It’d give her energy to play, plus hopefully improve her mood. Tired kids tended to be grumpy or fussy. And Kittarra’s mood was already heading South just by being here. “I’ll give you some different toppings to decorate your pancakes with,” she offered, hoping this would bring Kittarra around. “Pure maple syrup and salted butter, bananas or strawberries with whipped cream, some tender bacon rashers…doesn’t that sound good? But you have to sit nicely to eat them. You can’t have food in the play areas or they’ll get messy and sticky, which would bring pests, like ants and mice. Plus, sitting on the floor means people could trip over you and get hurt, it’s hard to eat neatly, and there are germs from people’s feet. Sitting at the table is much better” The kitsune explained her reasoning to the little 5 year old. Kids tended to be more agreeable when they knew why a rule was made, instead of being told to just do something. Kittarra’s Mom had told the daycare over the phone that she wanted her preschooler to be treated younger, closer to the baby brother’s age, as she seemed to be jealous of him. Regression wasn’t ideal since this would delay the girl starting school next year but if it tamed her brattiness, the Mom would be grateful. Hence why Akemi threatened putting her in a highchair.

Kittarra folded her arms in defiance at the mention of a toddler table or highchair. She heard the explanation but hated being corrected when she made a decision. She wasn't a baby, so the highchair was definitely out, but she wasn't going to go to the toddler table willingly either. That would be giving in too easily. She wanted to see what Akemi would do if she showed a little stubbornness. Still, her stomach grumbled, and she knew she couldn't hold off much longer without eating. She trudged over to the toddler table and sat down gruffly into the chair. She knew nothing of what her mom and the daycare owner had talked about, but her mom did mention to her on the way here that she was going to learn a lesson she would never forget and that some day, her abilities would be put to better use. She had no clue what that meant, but she wasn't going to be able to do anything about the "lesson" on an empty belly. "I would like bananas and strawberries with whipped cream on them," she finally requested, though not as politely as the first time she spoke. 'Let the fun begin' she thought to herself.

At first, Akemi thought Kittarra was going to refuse to sit anywhere but the floor, watching her fold her arms and gain a stubborn look. Even after her explanation, the younger kitsune didn’t seem to want to budge. The older woman sensed the window for a tantrum to develop and decided to speak up to try to prevent it. “Come on, Kittarra. All kids must sit at the tables…” Akemi began, trying to persuade her. However, there was no need. Her ears detected a soft gurgle from the little one’s belly and she looked on in mild astonishment when the child reluctantly dragged her feet towards the kids’ tables and plopped down into a chair in a graceless fashion. “Oh” Akemi breathed softly. She wasn’t expecting that. Ignoring Kittarra’s attitude, she brought up a hand to hide a fleeting smile. It seemed Kittarra’s belly was calling the shots at the moment. She heard her request for toppings and nodded. “Okay, good girl. I’ll be right out with your breakfast” she assured her, walking next door to the kitchen, where she could keep an eye on Kittarra from behind the counter. She decided to overlook the tone the child used when speaking, knowing you had to pick and choose your battles. She was just happy Kittarra was doing what she was asked for the moment. The fox tied on a white, frilly apron and washed her hands. She set a fry pan on the stove top, adding a pat of butter. She then grabbed a shaker container of buttermilk pancake mix from the pantry and added water, shaking it for a minute or two while the butter melted. Akemi poured three child sized circles of batter into the hot pan, accelerating the heating process with a little golden fox fire. While she watched over them with an egg slice in hand, watching for bubbles around the edges, two clones split from the main body and began preparing the ingredients for the toppings; washing and chopping fruit, whipping cream, putting portions of maple and salted butter into small serving cups and insta-frying some bacon rashers with a mixture of fox fire and lightning powers. Meanwhile, the main body expertly flipped and cooked multiple pancakes, stacking them up in a triangle formation. With the aid of her powers, breakfast was ready in minutes. Akemi and her clones put it all on a tray with kiddy cutlery, stacking a toddler plate with the hot pancakes, placing the bacon on another cartoon covered plate and putting the smaller dishes of toppings around them for the child to pick and choose from. The clones flitted back into her and Akemi walked out with the laden tray in her hands, gliding over to deposit it neatly on the table in front of Kittarra. “Here you go, Kittarra; breakfast is served! I know you said you wanted banana and strawberries with whipped cream but I gave you all the toppings, so you can choose what to put on each pancake. I thought it might be more fun that way,” she explained. “Bon appetit, Dear” she said with a kind smile, pulling out a toddler chair across from Kittarra and perching gently upon it to keep the girl company while she ate. “After you eat, we’ll clean up and then have circle time. I think we have a couple more kids coming in this morning” she informed her, “So you won’t be alone for long” Akemi smelled like koboku: Japanese incense. Though it wasn’t overpowering.
