Lyrana was born at Kinloch Hold, told that she is the result of a tryst between two mages who were later transferred to separate Circles in the Free Marches. She was never allowed to know which ones... which made the unrest in Kirkwall unnerving for her, to say the least. Regarding her own life, however, Lyrana's thirst for knowledge and ability to soak it all up like a sponge has served her well. Like water, she's always followed the path of least resistance: she kept her nose clean, did what she was told, lowered her head but gave friendly smiles to the Templars so they never thought she was up to something... It was easy to see her become a bit of a teacher's pet as the years passed, especially to one Senior Enchantress Jaenry who submitted Lyrana's name for every opportunity that arose. Admittedly... she was accepted for a good number of them.
The girl wasn't "perfect", however. Whenever Lyrana could, she relished in every chance to learn about the Dalish. She claimed she felt a "connection" with them, even though she knew her parents had been city elves who'd come willingly to the Chantry. Every story about them was met with starry-eyed wonder. She'd begun romanticizing the notion of the Dalish, loving the idea of elves with such freedom! It became a bit of a guilty pleasure, especially since she knew she was bound to these stone walls, and even when she could leave them... she would be constantly accompanied by Templars.
One chance to leave the stone walls came up shortly after the blonde's Harrowing. Senior Enchantress Jaenry, something of a magical herpetologist, was asked to investigate the behavior of a colony of lizards in the Hinterlands. Lyrana wasn't given too many details at the time since her mentor didn't want to get her hopes up, but from what she understood, this certain group of lizards was bigger in both number and size than what was normal, and they were almost acting like little dragons. Jaenry was very excited to see them, and given Lyrana was all but her assistant at the time, the senior enchantress put in the request for her company over the assignment. The request was approved, and off the two mages were to the Hinterlands, guarded closely by three Templars.
The quintet never made it to their destination. Three days into their journey, they were caught in an ambush. The bandits had subpar equipment, but they easily outnumbered the little group from the Circle. Neither Jaenry nor Lyrana were particularly skilled in offensive spells, and the Templars with them were admittedly torn between fighting the bandits and their concern that the two women would use the chaos to flee their guard. The lack of focus was ultimately their undoing: the Templars and Jaenry were killed... and Lyrana ran.
Once she was safe and able to gather herself, her course of action was clear: she needed to get herself to a Chantry so she could be escorted back to the Tower. At least... that was what she should have done, but in a moment of clarity, she threw caution into the window and... didn't. Lyrana was an apostate. She would join the Dalish! ... Er. Provided she could find them.

tab tab ◦ Helplessness - As long as a person isn't against elves/mages, she's pretty good at making herself appear weak and helpless, triggering people's desire to take care of the little being. Lyrana may or may not be aware she does this and can only think of a couple times she's done it on purpose. Her cheerfulness and apparent naïveté lend to this as well, and it was jokingly theorized at the Tower that her puppy-dog eyes could end wars. tab tab ◦ Survival - In her time away from the Circle Tower, she's built a sort of bond with the nature around her, becoming familiar with the flora and fauna. It feels more home to her than Kinloch Hold ever did. She probably sings with trees, and the birds probably help her dress. Not actually a Disney princess. tab tab ◦ Levity - She can find it in just about any situation. If she couldn't... she'd probably give up or something equally depressing.
