I guess it's no secret that there have been sunscreen's on the market that contain benzene, which is a known carcinogen, especially after recalls in the previous year or so.

Now that summer is in full swing, it's wise to check your sunscreen labels before putting them on! Thought I would share a post I found 3nodding

More info I found with this pic on Facebook via GMO Free USA:

As we head into hot summer weather… over 50 sunscreens were tested by Valisure and found to contain benzene last year, a contaminant that causes blood disorders like anemia, leukemia and other cell-based cancers following chronic exposure and is also a reproductive toxin. We’re posting again because some, but not all of the brands and contaminated batches were recalled, and these are brands you should double-check. Page 12 of the document in the first link has the lot numbers of the contaminated products so you can check what you may already have and avoid if you are shopping for more. It would be bad enough if this was the only dangerous chemical, but there are more.

FDA officials are currently in the process of overhauling its guidelines for sunscreen production in the United States and two more ingredients, tromaline aline salicylate and PABA — are no longer recognized as safe. And an active sunscreen ingredient known as oxybenzone has become increasingly condemned by health providers and ecologists alike. It's been "noted to ruin coral reefs and have negative effects on our endocrine system," according to Kenneth Mark, MD.

Experts tell us that the safest sunscreens are those that use zinc or titanium dioxide as the active ingredient. We prefer zinc. As it happens, there are a couple of those on the recall list. We stick to brands that are organic these days to minimize the risks. Two brands we trust and like are @badgerbalm and @earthmamaorganics. What's your favorite organic sunscreen?
Be well
