As I remember, growing up in the early nineties, things were different back then. Music was less accessible because the internet wasn't as advanced as it is in this day and age. I remember as a kid, everyone used to stand outside the shops on opening day, waiting to get their hands on the newest album on the first day of it's release. Having a physical copy is a piece of the music you own for yourself in such a manner. Buying the physical copy also helps boost units sold. By units, I mean a CD or vinyl record.

Ah, I see. I was born at a time where the iPod was a thing but smartphones haven't caught on in my childhood, so I'm somewhat aware that music used to be rarer, even if I wasn't around for when public venues were the main source of them.

That sounds about right. That explains why the value of a physical copy of an album had to be explained. Take a look at it this way. When Metallica's black album came out back in 91, kids lined up around record shops worldwide to buy it. With the iPod an mp3 came streaming soon afterwards, which absolutely obliterated individual unit sales, which has basically put record labels into successions. My advice to everyone in the younger generation. Buy the album.

i just only recently got into music so i don't really have anything that can play physical copies

All in due time. Physical copies are so much more rewarding than just streaming online.
any advice on good vinyl players?

I've got a pretty basic Audiotechnica turntable paired up to some wireless speakers. This setup does great with 95% of the records I own. Planning on upgrading my speakers at some point.

Audiotechnica has some really solid players through their outlet store. And chances are good if you have a record store nearby that they may have some excellent refurbished players. Also, they should be able to point you in the best direction as far as quality and price goes.
