Maokai had a huge grin on “yea! That’s the spirit! Once you take it back I would definitely join you there” he said enthusiastically, he didn’t really know anything about what happened but it doesn’t matter! He was excited before she asked and tried to make the motions of throwing cards “yea something like that, it takes a bit of practice but it can be really fun to do so!” he said as he pulled a regular playing card from the pouch, why did he have that there? because why not! He held the edge of the card with his index and middle finger and with a swift flick the card flew very fast and stuck got stuck on a tree nearby “yea I can hit things with it, normal cards aren’t very dangerous and maybe will cause small cuts if thrown well, but if they are special cards then they can do quite a bit of damage” he said with a small laugh “nope, only human and Faunus blood which is a good thing, imagine losing your senses over a piece of steak haha that would be awful” he never really thought of it before, but now he was sure to be very thankful for it “hmm… food vans can be a good idea, let’s just walk to the first one we see and take whatever they have in there, should be interesting don’t you think?” he then stretched as she wore her shoes back on “yea, I am part of team RVEE, my team leader is named Rena but… I doubt you know her, she rarely gets out of the room” he said with a chuckle, he really wished Rena was more motivated to act up as a leader.

Xanthe looked up to watch him but from the angle only saw it sticking out of the tree when she turned to look. Though on reflection she doubted that she would have been able to track it with her eyes in any the case. "Impressive. Can you curve it around things?" She could, she had the ability to curve darts so that they didn't just miss her target but everything else in a front of her. Honestly if she was going to throw something the safest place to stand was in a bunker, probably on the moon. She had once launched her harpoon and hit someone standing behind her, it would have been impressive, if it wasn't for the screaming. "I bet a couple of those thrown pretty quick could really mess something up." She finished tying her shoes and stood up. "But you fight with your fists mostly?" She was picturing it, slowly, even without a demonstration she could imagine the hit and run tactics but she kept drawing a blank. "Where does the blood come in? Bottle prepared beforehand?" She motioned towards the path and started walking, assuming he was with her. "That's how I'd do it I suppose, even if you can't control it completely once you started you want to make sure your pointed the right way first, right?" She wondered how close he had to get, it was a city and people had accidents. She decided to not ask, it didn't really matter. "Yep." She agreed before he went on to talk about his team. "Rainsong myself, I'm not really sure who my team leader is." She was being honest, having never spoken to him. "I'm sure their both great. The other ones are nice though." She shrugged, unsure why she had brought it up in hindsight. "So what are your hobbies? What do you do to stave off the long dark? You into..." She shifted her eyes left and right dramatically. "Windmilling?" She looked at him conspiratorially.

Maokai would chuckle “of course I can, what’s the point of being able to only throw them at a straight line? I can even make it return to me but… that’s not really something usable in combat” he would say with a small smile, he never had someone to talk to about his combat style so far, only one that was close to it was Rey but… that’s a whole different story “yea, I usually fight with my fists and as for the blood… I never thought of bringing a bottle of it” he would scratch his head “I usually try to rush at the enemy and get a good bite on them if I need the bonus power from my semblance. And don’t worry it takes some time before I lose control so I can still fight with my mind on the enemy and not on his flesh, but let’s just leave the conversation here please, I promise I’ll tell you more once I know you better” he said with a small frown, it’s not that he didn’t trust her but he didn’t want her to leave him if he tells her more about himself. As the two continued to walk she mentioned never speaking to her leader and not really knowing much the other two members, it was a little weird for him since it was part of the very first things he did, it was very important for him to know the people he is about to spend so much time with, but his thoughts were quickly cut short as she asked about his hobbies “there are three things I cannot live without! Jogging, sparing and most importantly eating!” he would say happily as his stomach growled but his happiness was quickly shifted into confusion “windmilling? Huh? what do you mean by that? Don’t think I ever tried it” he would answer while scratching the back of his head, hoping he didn’t say anything weird by not knowing what it was.

Xanthe nodded with interest. "Not even if you threw it into them then had it return to you? Like a saw blade?" She nudged him knowing that in all likely hood that sort of feat was impossible. Though it would still be pretty impressive if he could do it. "I'm not volunteering. Sorry." He seemed nice, but there was just something weird about someone holding a vial of your blood and then sniffing it before a fight. Though she could see the inconvenience of it if his opponent didn't want to play ball and be bitten. She nodded to indicate she would stop prying, honestly it was better for her to be told outright, otherwise they would be there for hours as she probed him with more specific scenarios. Like does it work if the blood is mixed with aniseed or by smell alone. No it was better to curb this now. "That's okay, when your ready." She wondered if he would be prepared to tell her more and if he understood what more she wanted to know. "Sparing." She noted aloud, it wasn't really a question, just a expression of interest. "There is certainly a lot to eat around the city." She admitted. Then her face lit up as he admitted he'd never heard of windmilling, for effect she gasped. "Windmilling is the sport of knights!" She grabbed his arm and steered him out of the gate and away from the direction of the market. "I know a place we can do it. There is one up here." She looked hat him, thinking how to sell him on the idea. "You know about monsters right? Real ones. Not like those cartoons they show kids. Real, in the flesh, living and breathing monsters." A little background before she went over the rules.

Maokai would release a single laugh to Xanthe’s idea “As cool as it sounds, and it sounds awesome! I am sad to say it is not possible. Maybe if I had a specially made card for that specifically I could but it will be at the cost of its strength and accuracy” and as he stopped talking about his semblance she told him to tell her more when he was ready, something he definitely will do one day but he needed more time, he never told this to anyone yet. Of course, he knew there were many places to eat in this town! He lived here for 6 years after all, but his attention was quickly averted back to Xanthe after she let out a gasp “huh? reall- wait Xanthe where are you taking me?!” he would almost trip as she suddenly grabbed him and dragged him away from the market “do what? How do you even do that windmilling thing?!” he would ask while running behind her, admiringly he had no other option at this point, she was too excited to talk her out of it as she began to explain to him “monsters? Like Grimm? Yea I’ve seen some and fought a bit of them, what do they have to do with windmilling?” he would ask curiously, this was starting to get very interesting to him.

Xanthe twisted her face when he mentioned Grimm, they were an unknown in an already intangible subject. "Not like Grimm." The temptation was there to say they were in the same boat as the spirits of the otherworld, but there were good spirits and she had yet to see a good Grimm. "Okay." She slowed so he could catch up but kept up a quick pace. "So, do you know about the otherworld? Or the land of dreams?" She asked, but had already assumed that he didn't. It wasn't a slight against him, it was just easier to give him a fuller picture not one besmirched by someone else's telling. "Long ago, when my ancestors retreated behind the veil into the otherworld, they opened the way for creatures of that realm to pass through to our world. Spirits, creatures without form, impossibly small or unimaginably immense. Something like scale mean nothing to them." This was of course the cliff notes version of her villages origin myth, as told by someone who was neither an elder or priest while trying to run up a hill. But it was necessary to set the scene before diving head first into the windmilling. "There is a type of monster that hides in plain sight and given the opportunity will devour humans whole. And that's if your lucky, you don't want to know what happens if they catch you and their not hungry." She reached the summit and held him back. "Around this corner. Are you ready?" She gave him a moment before slipping out ahead of him and staring down the object in question. Ahead of them, on the street corner was a eight foot tall windmill, a miniature but still quite large. This one was painted in several zany colours.

Not Grimm? Then what were those monsters she was talking about? Maokai was very confused by what Xanthe was telling him “otherworld? Land of dreams? No, I haven’t heard of them” he would say before hearing her story and was starting to get visibly worried “there's that kind of monster here?! what should we do!?” she then asked if he was ready, ready for what?! “wait where are you going?! Don’t leave me here!” he yelled as he dove behind him, wait… why did he just jump with her?! What should he do now? Oh, he was frightened by her story but then could notice a windmill with weird colors ’huh? I have never seen one like this around’

She didn't blame him of course, there was no way that he would know her village's stories without having them told to him in advance, but he did seem to be taking the news that there was an otherworld pretty poorly. She had thought it was a pretty common knowledge, but then again, perhaps her perspective was skewed. She decided that easing him in gently was the solution, though realised that it was probably too late for that. "Possibly." She stated. Which was true to the best of her knowledge, it was had to say for certain without running the test. "You have to prepare yourself mentally." She was eyeing the windmill as he jittered besides her. It was probably hard finding out that there were monsters in the city and that one of them is hiding in plain sight on a street corner. "I'm not going anywhere, be quiet do you want it to hear you!" She pulled him back around the corner. "Take a deep breath, calm yourself." She poked her head around the corner again. Supposedly the windmill was part of an art display and according the plaque at the base was to bring awareness of world heritage. But she knew what it really was. She straitened up and looked at him. "Windmilling is simply a test to see what were dealing with. We'll sneak up behind it and carve our initals into the back. If it's just a windmill, we've marked a safe one." She paused. "And if it isn't?" She wondered about that too. "Well, we'll cross that bridge when it starts screaming and tries to kick us into the sun. Ready?"

The situation was… quite weird for the boy, did he go into something he really shouldn’t have? Maybe, but it does sound exciting to him! “o-ok I’ll be quite” he said as he took a deep breath, as he took it out he began to feel his chest go lighter “I’m calm now” he said as he saw her poke her head out towards the windmill, he was very confused but more questions will give him more confusing answers that will lead to more questions so it was better just to roll with what she was saying and hope for the best. Xanthe then explained about windmilling “so… if it’s a normal windmill we are fine huh? if not then... I guess it will get exciting haha I’m ready” he laughed excitedly, though he would admit he was very nervous, though he would start moving behind her as soon as she started moving towards the windmill.

She treated the scenario with absolute sincerity, to her there was a very real chance that before them was a giant in disguise, capable of worse barbarism than any Grimm. "Perfectly, though people probably won't like us carving our names into it." She admitted, from experience she knew the public weren't fans of flagrant vandalism and instead were only happy to turn a blind eye if it wasn't happening in front of them. A street corner in a semi-busy intersection was pretty in your face all things considered. "But if it is, point proven no more windmills." This was the undeniable truth of the matter, if someone had found a giant hidden as a windmill and lived to tell the tale, after killing the beast nobody would want a windmill near them, we'd be launching them into the Grimm and waiting for one side to wipe out the other. "We'll come at it from two angles, you take the direct path and I'll cross the street and loop back around. Go when I give you the signal." She gave a mini salute to indicate that would be the signal. "WELL, I'LL SEE YOU ROUND THEN." She announced loudly and gave him a wink before crossing over. Before jogging up the street on the other side and crossing back behind the windmill. Once in position she gave the signal and rushed the miniature windmill.
